WHAT IS THE BIBLE?
Everyone fights about what the Bible says or doesn’t say. But that’s a surface argument with no resolution. We can only arrive at the truth the Bible is trying to give us by first understanding the kind of text we’re looking at. And we can’t understand the kind of text we’re looking at without understanding where it came from, and how we got this large collection of ancient writings in the form we now have before us. Starting this Sunday, we’ll be looking at exactly that. Join us at our new 10 am time on Sunday morning!

THE DISHONEST MANAGER
The parable that kicks off Luke 16, about the manager who squanders his master's money, upsets a lot of people because Jesus seems to praise him when he rips off his master even more on his way out the door. What gives? We'll talk about it Sunday at our NEW WORSHIP TIME of 10:00 AM. Join us!

Thank you to the Historical Society for supporting our bell project! And thank you to all those who worked to make this year a smashing success! To those who pulled out all the tables and boxes and then put them back, those who worked shifts during the event, those who donated the items we had to sell, those who came and shopped, and those who simply shared in conversation and fellowship. THANK YOU!

Thank you to everyone who stopped by the Richmond Historical Society table this weekend and supported our work. We couldn't do it without our community. 💞

BUILDING RESTRICTIONS
Why did the oldest cities in the Fertile Crescent build towers before anything else? Pictured here are the ruins of one in Borsippa, Iraq. Why did God have an issue with the one being built in Babel (later Babylon), just 11 miles south of Borsippa? And is the story in Genesis 11 (about that problem tower), relevant to us today? (Spoiler alert: Yes) We'll talk about it on Sunday at 9 am.

TWO OF EACH
I’m not sure why the destruction of all but a handful of living beings in a cataclysmic flood is largely considered a children’s story; but, as we continue our journey through the ancient stories of Genesis, we’ll look at Noah and his Sumerian twin, Utnapishtim, on Sunday at 9 am.

MY BROTHER’S KILLER
Where did Cain get a wife? What was wrong with Cain’s offering? Is God unfair? Those are questions we frequently ask about the story of the first murder in Genesis 4. Those are reasonable questions, but none of them lead to what the story is trying to teach us. Join us for a look at it on Sunday at 9 am.

THE SNAKE WOULD LIKE A WORD
We didn’t get past the first man and the first woman before we humans began making very bad choices. But what choice were Adam and Eve making in eating that forbidden fruit? What were they thinking? Until we find their diaries we won’t know; but the story invites us to wonder if maybe that world-altering bite has more depth than we usually give it. In a story with a talking snake, anything can happen. Join us Sunday at 9 am to take another look.
