We are a vibrant Benedictine monastery of monks dedicated to prayer, worship and work in Richmond, Virginia. We operate Benedictine College Preparatory Benedict.

We are a community of men who have chosen a life of prayer and work following the Rule of St. The Regula Sancti Benedicti, or Rule was written over 1500 years ago as a "beginners" guide to perfect one's spiritual life. Through the centuries the Rule has become the mainstay of contemplative life in the West, as well as the cornerstone of monastic life. As St. Benedict instructs us we seek to, "Pref

Situated on 41 acres along the banks of the historic James River in rural Goochland County, Mary Mother of the Church Abbey has grown, from its founding in 1911 as a priory of Belmont Abbey in North Carolina, to its establishment in 1989 as an independent Abbey.

A blessed and joyful Easter Triduum celebrations; off to a good start with the Holy Thursday liturgy of the Last Supper, marking the institution of the Holy Eucharist and the Priesthood as a ministry of service to God’s people. Friday Stations (the Way) of the Cross, from the boys’ school via the girls’ school and ending at the Abbey cemetery.
