Every person who took this step completed our baptism class and came prepared for a powerful day of faith, community, and celebration. Today marks Juneteenth — a day that honors freedom, resilience, and the ongoing journey towards justice. On June 19, 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation, enslaved people in Galveston, Texas finally learned they were free. It’s a story of delayed liberation, but also of hope and determination that still resonates.

Juneteenth isn’t just a history lesson. It’s a call to reflect on progress made, and the work that remains. It’s about celebrating Black culture and achievement, recognizing the weight of the past, and asking how we can shape a more equitable future.

Let’s use this day to listen, learn, and lift each other up. Progress comes when we show up — not just today, but every day.
