James’s is an urban church in the heart of Richmond, Virginia. We are a community drawn together by our love of God and our desire to serve Christ in the world. We pray together, work together, learn, laugh, and sing together. We try every day to share a little bit of God’s love with our hurting world.

As a gentle reminder, individuals may attempt to impersonate parish staff or clergy to request money, gift cards, sensitive personal information, or access to the online parish directory. Please note that parish staff and clergy will never email you to request financial favors, urgent monetary assistance, or gift cards.

If you receive an email that looks suspicious, or if you are unsure about the legitimacy of a request, please do not respond, do not click any links, and do not purchase anything. Instead, verify the request by contacting our office directly at 804-355-1779 or via email at [email protected].

Thank you for your patience, attention, and helping to keep our community safe.

After 5 incredible years of dedicated service, our Director of Children’s Ministry, Ashlee Ligon, is stepping down. Ashlee has poured her heart into our children and families. Under her leadership, our programs have grown, deepened in faith, and become a vibrant, joyful part of our church life. She has loved our children so well—modeling for them what it means to be wrapped in the love of Christ.

While her official last day is June 28, we wanted to wait until everyone returned from summer travels to give her the send-off she deserves!

Save the date for Sunday, August 30, when we’ll officially bless and celebrate Ashlee, and thank her wonderful family (Grey, William, Henry, and Janie). We are so incredibly grateful that the Ligon family will continue to make St. James’s their church home!

Please join us in praying for Ashlee and her family during this new season, and drop a note of gratitude for her in the comments below 🤍

This past April, dozens of middle school students from across the state made personal connections with God and each other at Shrine Mont's Middle School Weekend.

The Episcopal Diocese of Virginia recently shared a moving story about the power of this connection. Read the full article at https://episcopalvirginia.org/stories/really-connected-middle-schoolers-build-faith-bonds-and-community/

The bees aren’t the only ones buzzing in the garden at Peter Paul🌼🐝

Our outdoor learning space is full of curiosity and discovery, thanks in part to Rick McCormick (Mr. Rick), who brings nature, gardening, and ecology to life for students in our after-school program.

Students dig into lifecycles, study plant growth, and observe pollinators through hands-on experience that makes learning stick.

And with the addition of a new outdoor chalkboard, installed by the amazing St James's Episcopal Church“Doers," students are engaging with nature in creative new ways.

These minds are growing right alongside the garden 🌱
