Once a week we pair local immigrant students with tutors to help them with their homework. We meet on Wednesdays evenings in the Fellowship Hall.

We have over 125 students signed up and we still need 40 tutors.

Will you fill one of our tutoring slots? No experience required. All you need is a willingness to support a student new to the area. It's more than just homework help; it's your opportunity to touch the world!

Last fall, Charlie and Alicia were newlyweds who had just arrived in Richmond after living overseas. They moved into the Gayton Parish Area the day before the Parish Area Picnic and decided to attend to meet their new neighbors from Third.

At the picnic, they signed up for a dinner group with several others in their Parish Area. Their ages and life experiences were different, but they loved meeting together and continued to do so for nearly a year. What started as showing up to meet their neighbors from Third turned into something unexpected — meeting for coffee, encouraging one another, and bringing them meals when their son was born.

As Alicia shared, “Third is big so it was really helpful to have a consistent, intimate environment to get to know others who live nearby. It’s been helpful and encouraging to get to know them and others in our parish as we’ve gotten settled into our home and welcomed baby.” And it all started with a picnic!

Meet our New Pastor for Church Planting: Nicole Unice!

Nicole has over 25 years of ministry experience with particular gifting in forming and discipling leaders, gathering teams, evangelism, and preaching and teaching. She has written several books, Bible studies, and curriculum, and is known for her authentic and grounded teaching style, and contagious love for God’s word and his people. At the heart of her ministry, Nicole believes that the local church is God’s primary vessel for human flourishing and community renewal.

Nicole and her husband Dave live in the Museum District, where they have launched their three kids– Charlie (NYC), Cameron (Senior at Davidson College), and Des (Freshman at W&M).

It's that time of year again! Our ministry year is officially kicking off in just TWO weeks and we are so excited for all the fun that's coming. Here's a taste of what to expect the next few months:

✨ August 30 at 9:30: Sunday School Kickoff for all ages (2+)
*Note: No open house this year; drop off in all new classes 👩‍🏫

✨ August 30, 11am - 1pm: All-Church Picnic

At Third Church, we are deeply committed as a church to supporting God’s work through the church both here in Richmond and around the world.

One way we do this is by through short-term mission trips. This September we are sending a team of 10 to the northeast region of France for a short-term mission trip. They will visit several ministries serving refugees and migrants where they will listen, learn, and join in serving alongside them.

They have currently raised just over $4,000 towards their total fundraising goal of $7,000. Here are two ways to help:

This September we are sending a short-term mission team to northern France. 🇫🇷

This team of 10 will spend a week learning from and working with ministries who serve migrants & refugees... and starting this Sunday, they are hosting a fundraiser!

✨ In the Gathering Space between services on July 19, 26, and August 2, you will find a French Patisserie and map fundraiser. Members of the team will be there to share about their trip and to invite you to enjoy pan au chocolat or a macaron or another tasty treat while supporting their endeavors. 🥐

[Our office is closed on July 3rd in honor of Independence Day]

Last Sunday in our prayers of the people we offered up the following prayer. It is fitting to carry with us into this holiday weekend:

"As our nation prepares to mark 250 years of its common life, we give you thanks for the many gifts you have bestowed upon this country: for the freedoms we enjoy, for those who have served the common good, and for the countless acts of courage, sacrifice, and generosity that have shaped our history. We confess that no earthly nation is your kingdom, and no political vision can bear the weight of our ultimate hope. Keep our deepest allegiance fixed upon Jesus Christ, our true King. Heal what is divided among us. Strengthen all who serve in public office with humility, integrity, and wisdom. Renew the habits of truthfulness, justice, neighbor-love, and faithful citizenship that sustain a healthy democracy. And may your Church be known not for reflecting the divisions of our culture, but for embodying the reconciling love of Christ, until the kingdoms of this world become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ. Through Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen."
