On Friday, September 11, we mark the 25th anniversary of the tragic and violent events of 9/11. People around our nation, and around the world, will recall the attacks which took place in New York, Washington, and Pennsylvania. Members of our own parish community lost loved ones on that day twenty-five years ago. Here at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church, we will prayerfully remember all of those who died or were injured

We live in an age of cancel culture: people sharing someone else's perceived faults in public with the goal of removing them from their position. Cancel culture isn't an attempt to bring someone to the truth; it's an attempt to remove them because they are considered an obstacle.
⁣
As Jesus makes clear in today's Gospel, "cancel culture" is not the way of Christians. This doesn't mean there aren't times when we shouldn't go public with someone's wrongdoings. But this comes only after we have first spoken with them privately, and then within our Church.
⁣
Why does Jesus insist on first bringing up someone's sin against you one-on-one? Because the goal isn't punishment or removal; it's reconciliation.
⁣
Let's follow Christ's lead, Saint Mary's family, and seek to reconcile with those who've wronged us--not cancel them.

This fall join us as we explore the Biblical Prophets. At pivotal points in Israel’s history, God called these individuals to speak His message to the people. At times these words brought consolation to those who were suffering. In other moments, these same prophets challenged the Israelites to examine their lives, turn away from sin and return to God. We will also reflect on the many ways these prophetical messages are still relevant to our lives today.

This study will be presented in person and through Zoom on Thursday evenings at 7 p.m. and on Friday mornings at 10:30 a.m., from September 10th - November 13th.
