2 Corinthians 1.20: “For all the promises of God are “Yes” in Christ. And so, through Him, our “Amen” is spoken to the glory of God.”
First, we must establish the fact that when God speaks that He can only speak Truth, He cannot lie (Hebrews 6.18); therefore, “promises” here does not relate to the human thought of ‘promise’ as a commitment that forces a person to do what they say they will.

God’s Promises, commitments to those who love Him, are first and primarily found in God’s Word, the Bible. All of these are “’Yes’ in Christ” – meaning that they have already been fulfilled, in the Sprit, with Jesus’ sacrifice, Resurrection, and Ascension. Get ahold of that, the Promises that He has made are already answered in Jesus the ‘Messiah’ (aka Christ).
Therefore, thru Jesus, we are the ‘Amen’ – the outcome of the Commitment God has made. We are the ‘testimony’, the living example of God’s faithfulness.

Sometimes God will speak a Rhema Word to a person, an Individual commitment; (Romans 10.17). Is this a Promise and can I expect a “Yes” and “Amen”? The quick answer is “Yes” but there are a few “ifs” on our side. We must ascertain that the ‘promise’ aligns with the Word of God. God speaks clearly but the message gets translated thru our human soul – mind, emotions, & expressed thru our will. Get in God’s Word and clarify the Word that you heard; it MUST align with the Principles set forth in God’s Word.

Then we must remember that most of these Promises involve other people, whether it is for a new job, a spouse, or salvation for a loved one. God has given every one of us free will and God will not violate that free will. However, He will create an environment and the influences that will push/pull the situation in the direction that is aligned to His Will (and the Promise He has made to you).

Finally, if it is a commitment to you then you should expect to be a part of the ‘Amen’ or fulfillment of that promise. God does not need our help, but He does expect us to help – as He directs us. Understand, in the end, any Promise that God makes is from His Will & Purpose which were established before time began. You will be a part of the fulfillment even when you cannot see Him working – He is still working.

John 10.17-18: “For this reason the Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it up again. 18No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of My own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This charge I have received from my Father.”

No person nor government, no ‘rule or authority, power or dominion’ had the ability to take the Lord’s life from Him. He could have called 12 legions of angels, just as He told Pilate. He laid His life down on His own “accord” – by His own decision, perfectly aligned with the Will of the Father. He had the same power, via Holy Spirit, “to take it up again” so that He could say, “I AM the First and the Last, the Living One. I was dead, and behold, now I AM alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys (authority over) of Death and Hades.” (Revelation 1.17-18)

There were no accidents, what occurred was not random but perfectly timed according to God’s Plan and Purpose. How do we know? There are more prophecies in the Bible than we have time to explore but let’s look at what was going on in the world at the time. Rome had already deified Julius Caesar, who had died; however, they were moving to deify Caesar Augustus while he was still alive – a world dominant power setting forth a person as both king and god. Jerusalem became the center point of the conflict as they were the only people who would not allow this to happen. Does this sound familiar?

God will have the victory, He does not know how to lose; however, we, as His people, must be willing to make a stand – make Him known and not submit to a watered-down version of our Faith. To be a Believer & Follower of the Lord Jesus takes courage, and it will take sacrifice as well. But this we know …

“In all these things we are more than conquerors thru Him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, not height nor depth, nor anything in all of creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord!” (Romans 8.37-39)

The Lord Jesus has already won the war but the battle rages on today. If you name the Lord Jesus as Savior then you have an adversary and they see you as a threat – whether you see yourself that way or not. We must remember that we have been given the authority over the enemy, see Luke 10.19, and here are the three “weapons” that he fears the most: (i) God’s Word (Sword of the Spirit) – because it holds the Promises of God which are unbreakable, (ii) the Blood of Jesus that has the power to redeem, sanctify, and bring us into fellowship with God, (iii) Jesus’ Name – His authority.

Hear the Lord, our Commander in battle speak these Words to you, O’ brave hearted warrior of Christ …

Ephesians 6.10-13: “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. 11Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. 12For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. 13Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.”

“For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” Galatians 6.8-9

Do you ever get tired of doing the right thing when it seems like everyone else around you is focused only on themselves? Does life seem unfair? Life is unfair at times … but God is always good!

People do mistreat us, do us wrong and even betray us for no reason whatsoever. It is not easy to do good in a world of broken people, I believe the Lord Jesus would agree with that statement. However there is a quoted verse from Romans 8.28:

“Now we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28

One, do you love God? Two, have you decided to follow Jesus’ call? If the answer to both of these questions is “yes”, then trust God because He is “working it out”. It is not God’s desire that any should perish but that even the wicked change their ways and be saved.

Consider this possibility, what if the trial that we are going thru was meant to demonstrate “Christ in us” to those who are persecuting us - “for their good”. Lord Jesus forgave those who crucified Him from the cross. Trust God and do good and let Him deal with the wicked.

Monday’s Moment of Reflection

And Jesus said: “What is the Kingdom of God like? What should I compare it to? It is like a grain of mustard seed that a man took and sowed in his garden, and it grew and became a tree, and the birds of the air made nests in its branches.” (Luke 13.18-19)

When you read “the Kingdom of God” what comes to mind? The Lord Jesus made it clear that the Kingdom of God existed here, just not (yet) at the same level as God wants it to be --- “Your Kingdom come, here on earth as it is in heaven.” Jesus also makes it clear with the above example, that the Kingdom is supposed to expand, grow, and bring life. Therefore, it is a “life brining Kingdom”.

Life replicates, if it did not then it would die. If corn did not produce seed, an oak tree did not produce acorns, or if cattle did not birth calves – then each would die within a generation. How then does the Kingdom of God replicate? It replicates thru the Gospel Message that brings people to salvation and the Way of the Lord Jesus as their Savior. But it takes work, and we are the workers. We have to be about the Father’s business of spreading the Gospel – in Word and deed, by what we say and the way we live.

The Lord provides another example of the Kingdom by saying, “A woman took yeast and worked it into 60 pounds of flour (that is A LOT) until it permeated every part of the dough.” (Matthew 13.33) Yeast is a living organism that contains a chemical called catalase; this chemical acts as a catalyst to cause fermentation which in turn causes bread to “rise” so that it is like loaf bread instead of crackers. We are the “woman”, and the yeast is the Gospel, and the world is the flour … we need to make sure that we are working the yeast into the dough!

Monday’s Moment of Reflection
09_13_2021

1 John 3.16 -18:” By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers. But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him? Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.”

As the children of God, we ought to demonstrate God’s love towards those around us, including those who are in need – especially to those in need. Most of us know the parable of the Good Samaritan, this parable was given in response to the question, “Who is my neighbor, the one I am to love?” The parable begins with “a man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho” who gets ambushed by robbers “who stripped him and beat him and departed, leaving him half dead”.

Now “by chance”, three men come across the man. The first two, a priest and a Levite, were servants and therefore agents of the Most High God. By Law, these two were bound to help their brothers who were in need (see Deuteronomy 15.7-8); yet out of fear of becoming ritually unclean, they just pass on by on the other side of the road. How many times in the Bible does God say, “I prefer mercy over sacrifice”?

The Samaritan, who would have been despised by the priest, the Levite and maybe even the injured man, if he were a Jew, “had compassion” – this word is the direct opposite of “closing you heart”. To the Ancient Hebrew, the “bowels” (guts or intestines) were the seat of our emotions – that part of us that allows us to connect with other humans. This compassion moved him to act. Understand that to an Ancient Hebrew, to “see” or to “hear” meant that there was a decision and resulting action required. To “hear God” and not act accordingly was to choose to ‘not act’ which constituted action in itself. The Samaritan chose to act out of his compassion, and the Lord Jesus makes a point that he is the man’s “neighbor” because he demonstrates love (agape’) towards him.

As Believers, we are reborn and our spirit is brought back to life; that spirit, the conscience portion, is a part of “the heart”, and this is the point where the heart of God meets the heart of the person. Psalm 103.8: “The LORD is compassionate (merciful) and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.” This word, [rac-hum], is used thirteen time in the OT and always in relationship to God – thus it is considered an attribute of God. It is a trait that we as His children will take on UNLESS we chose to practice otherwise. We can choose to harden our hearts, becoming numb to the pain and suffering of others. This is known as “apathy” – indifference – and this, and not hate, is the true opposite of love. We cannot choose to separate ourselves from our “neighbors” and not get separated from God.

Monday’s Moment of Reflection

1 John 4.18: “There is no fear in love, perfect love drives out fear. Fear has to do with punishment, the one who fears has not been made perfect in love.”

There are two basic motivations in life – love or fear. God is love, He can and will provide everything that we need; fear is a lack of trust that He either can or will provide what we need

Fear limits our capacity to love because we are afraid to lose something. If we struggle with loving someone then it is because we are afraid that we will lose something in the giving. The word “punishment” [kol-as-is] is related to deprivation or deep loss – not having those things that we need.

Solomon in his wisdom, inspired by Holy Spirit, said (Proverbs 24.16), “A righteous (right thinking-right acting) person may fall seven times, but he will rise again.” However, David, his father whose very life drew him into closer relationship with God, told us ‘WHY’ this was true: “The Lord makes firm/sure a man’s steps, if he desires His way. Though he stumbles, he will not fall headlong (be cast down) – for the Lord is ever holding his hand. I was once young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous one forsaken nor his children begging for bread.”
Here is the point, we are no longer slaves to fear, we are the children of JEHOVAH Jireh, the Provider! We call Him ABBA (Daddy). (Romans 8.15) He is the God of ‘more than enough’ and as His children we ought to live in the overflow of His love.

Will we get our feelings hurt? Yes. Will there be those who will take advantage of us? Yes. Will there be those who hate us? Yes. But what do you really lose? Man cannot take what only God can give. So how ought we look at it when these kinds of situations happen? James (1.2-4) tells us to rejoice because we know that these are moments of refinement that produce endurance (the ability to carry on). “Let endurance finish its work so that you may be more mature and complete, LACKING NOTHING.”

Look to what you can learn from these times. What lesson is your loving Father trying to teach you? Don’t let the fear of falling keep you out of the race. There are no spectators in this race. When you fall, He will always be there to pick you up.

Monday’s Moment of Reflection
08_30_2021
“God has delivered us from the power of darkness and has transferred us into the kingdom of His dear Son, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins. He is the image of the invisible God and the firstborn of every creature. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they are thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers. All things were created by Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.”
Colossians 1:13-17

Jesus is at the center - “of what”, you may ask. He is the center of all things. The North Star is the one celestial body that does not move. There are scientific reasons given but I believe it is just God showing out. In the same way, regardless of where we are in life, Jesus never moves. There is an old hymn that goes like this ...

The Heavenly Vision by Helen Howarth Lemmel
O soul, are you weary and troubled? No light in the darkness you see? There’s light for a look at the Savior, And life more abundant and free!
Turn your eyes upon Jesus, Look full in His wonderful face, And the things of earth will grow strangely dim, In the light of His glory and grace.
Thro' death into life everlasting, He passed, and we follow Him there; O’er us sin no more hath dominion-- For more than conqu’rors we are!
His Word shall not fail you--He promised; Believe Him, and all will be well: Then go to a world that is dying, His perfect salvation to tell!

So when the world feels like it is spinning out of control, remember “Jesus is at the center!” Regardless of what storms may cross our path, He is with us and that “all things work to the good of those who love God and are Called according to His Purpose.” ALL in Greek means all. Am I Called according to His Purpose? If you have called upon the Name of the Lord Jesus to be your Savior then you are a child of God – that is what He “calls” you. Every child has a Purpose because we are made in His image and were created to bring the Kingdom of Heaven to earth … “as it is in Heaven”.

Psalm 121.1-4: “I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth. He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.”

If that does not bring peace to your “storm” then I don’t know what will?

“We have an altar from which those who minister at the tabernacle have no right to eat.” Hebrews 13:10

Sometimes we hear “Bible language” and can look over it without digging in. We read in the OT about sacrifice of animals and say, “those were the old days.” However, that’s not true, Jesus was the perfect sin sacrifice; a price was paid and we too, if we follow in the steps of the Lord, will pay a price as well.

“And so Jesus also suffered outside the city gate to make the people holy through his own blood. Let us, then, go to him outside the camp, bearing the disgrace he bore.”
Hebrews 13:12-13

Our sins are forgiven but the world will reject us. In addition, we still offer sacrifice and there is still an altar. The altar is in our hearts and the praise is that of our lips.

“Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess his name.”
Hebrews 13:15

Walking it out:
When we look at the pharisees, we can see that they weren’t able to eat from the life that Jesus gave because they would not stop the tradition and trying to please the culture they lived in. Just like Jesus sacrificed Himself outside the city, we must also sacrifice ourself from the things of tradition and culture and be outside of the walls of the world.

“I urge you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy, and acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service of worship.”
Romans 12:1 MEV

How do we become “living sacrifices”? There is devotion (prayer, relationship, reading God’s Word & worship) that develops our character but there is also more. The Word tells us in multiple places, including Jesus in Matt. 9.13, “I (God) desire mercy over sacrifice”. Mercy, in Hebrew [hesed]: other-focused active goodwill.

Outward “sacrifice” is demonstrated thru the grace & mercy we show others. What are you “sacrificing” in you life to help others. Not just family and friends but those in need that you may not even really know.

“Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, it is sin.”
James 4:17 MEV

We seldom hear sermons on the sin of omission, that is knowing what to do but not doing it. I have found in life that serving those who have no way of reciprocating brings great joy and peace and usually a good dose of humility. So sacrifice some of your time and talent to be a blessing to others. Be God’s hands and feet. Let His peace, mercy, blessings and favor flow thru you to those in need.

Walk it out:
Sometimes it seems like time is our worst enemy… and sacrificing time usually means we don’t get to do some of the stuff we’d plan or wanted to do. In my life, when I have given time to do something that God said to do, it has been worth it and God has give me the time back.

“As the Father loved Me, I also loved you. Remain in My love.” John 15.9 MEV

God is love (I John 4) and we were created to be loved by Him; however, sadly many people do not realize or do not fully accept this as Truth. So they search for someone or something to fill the void they feel in their heart. This drives them to make choices that further lowers their value - in their eyes.

In the book of Hosea, we are told the prophet is commanded, by God, to marry a woman who continues to cheat on him with other men. Hosea even goes to the point of buying her back (redeeming) from the slave block. God’s love never changes!

“In this way the love of God was revealed to us, that God sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him.”
1 John 4:9

In economics, the value of something is determined by what a person is willing to pay for it. The Father “bankrupted” Heaven by sending His precious son, Jesus Christ, to redeem us (buy us back). What does that say about how much He values us?

What then should our attitude be towards those who do not know God’s love?

“Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God, and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.” 1 John 4:7

Walking it Out
Walk in love! My great grandfather used to say that constantly to remind himself to love those who were hard to love. Generally bad behavior is driven by a feeling of lack - lack of love, lack of value, the point is that something is missing. So when you see people acting badly, be kind and patient, show them love. Even when they don’t “deserve” it. There is a good chance that we have days that we are the ones acting badly … and others have had to show us love.
