Lord, I am weak from the cares that weigh me down, weary from running from my fear, my pain, and my sin. God, I do not have the strength to carry on. So I ask you, Jesus, to take this burden of guilt and regret from me, and satisfy my thirst with your living water. Set my eyes upon the prize and my feet upon the straight path, that I may run this race with endurance and faithfulness. And renew my strength, that by your power of your Spirit I may persevere. Thank you, Lord, for giving me the strength to soar on wings like eagles, to run and not grow weary, to walk and not faint. Amen.

O God, You ordained that Your only-begotten Son should be lifted up above the earth and draw all things to Himself; mercifully grant that, through the merits and example of Your seraphic confessor Joseph, we may be lifted up above all earthly desires and be found worthy to come to Him, who being God, lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit, for ever and ever. Amen."

St. Joseph’s prayer comes before God and asks that as Christ was lifted up above the earth, so too should those who pray this prayer be lifted up to Him.

We pray to rise above earthly desires, wealth, fame, comfort, ease, even warmth, and love, in order to gain Christ and His magnificence. Nothing comes before Him in our lives, even if we must deny ourselves, take up our cross, and follow Him (Luke 9:23).

Those who humble themselves shall be exalted (Matthew 23:12). Therefore let us humble ourselves that God Himself might exalt us in due time.

God, Our Father, We Are Exceedingly Frail
God, our Father, we are exceedingly frail and indisposed to every virtuous and gallant undertaking.

Strengthen our weakness, we beseech you, that we may do valiantly in this spiritual war; help us against our own negligence and cowardice, and defend us from the treachery of our unfaithful hearts.

For Jesus Christ’s sake.

Our lives are fragile. How often we live as if we’re indestructible, yet our weaknesses remind us how very frail we are. The natural bent of our hearts is to be selfish and self-seeking; we need God’s help to counteract that inclination and help us live a life of selflessness and grace toward others.

It is not by the power of the Spirit that we shrink away, rather, the desire of our flesh. Only God can give us the strength and the will to stand against our own sinful hearts and walk in the righteous power and victory of God.
