What happens when the God we believe in always seems to agree with us?
Always shares our opinions.
Always approves our choices.
Always dislikes the same people we dislike.
Always wants what we already wanted.
At some point, it’s worth asking:
Am I being shaped by God, or have I slowly shaped God into someone who looks a lot like me?
That’s the uncomfortable territory behind the second commandment. Idolatry isn’t only about statues and carved images. Sometimes the image we create is in our own minds.
We’re digging into that question in Decalogue tonight (Tuesday) and again Wednesday night at 6:30 PM.
