As we begin August, we are recognizing our need as a church family at New Life to restore the LORD as the central focus in our lives individually and collectively. If we will intentionally and deliberately decide to turn from distraction to the LORD as our central focus, the Holy Spirit will invigorate and enable us to grow in our personal and corporate relationship with Him. The outflow WILL be a greater passion for the Word, for living before God and men lives that quickly forgives and serves in the style of Jesus. We will realize afresh that all we have materially has came from His hands and that we really own nothing but are only stewards of blessings that God desires to use to bless others. We will pray in the secret place and as we travel through our day (praying without ceasing) and we will see suffering differently! (Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery trials you are going through, as if something strange were happening to you. 13 Instead, be very glad—for these trials make you partners with Christ in his suffering, so that you will have the wonderful joy of seeing his glory when it is revealed to all the world. (1 Peter 4:12–13, NLT

The Waugh and Jenkins families are deeply saddened to announce the passing of their beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend, Shawn Waugh.

Shawn suffered a heart attack early Thursday morning and passed away shortly afterward. Our hearts are broken by this loss, especially for his wife, Bethany, and their children, Abby, James, and Josiah. We ask that you please keep them in your prayers as they begin the difficult journey of moving forward without him.

As many of you know, Shawn and Bethany spent 19 years serving as missionaries in Papua New Guinea and returned to the United States last year. While they have been working to establish their life here in America, they have not had the opportunity to build the financial resources needed for an unexpected tragedy such as this.

The Churches of Christ in Christian Union have established a fund to help Bethany and the family with funeral, burial, and related expenses. If you feel led to help, we would be deeply grateful for your support and prayers.
