IF YOU WOULD LIKE A FLAG TO PUT ON YOUR VETREANS GRAVE PLEASE LET ME KNOW AS SOON AS POSSIBLE IN ORDER TO RECEIVE A FLAG FOR YOU TO INSTALL.
Sally Baldwin

To Whom This Concerns:
American Legion Post 128, of Stewart, Webster and Chattahoochie Counties has taken on the responsibility to honor our deceased Veterans for many years. We still want to honor these Veterans who laid their lives on the line in order for all of us to be in a House of Worship, without being dictated to but given the Freedom of Choice to worship to Whom we please.

Unfortunately, the man hours that this endeavor takes are more than our small post can handle. With almost 800 Veterans graves visited in the past years, 40 cemeteries in 3 counties, with 1 or 2 added each year, has stretched us to our limit.

Therefore, we are asking the local churches to help us in our work, by placing these flags on the graves of your deceased Veterans, in your church cemetery on Memorial Day, in remembrance of your loved ones. Post 128 members will continue to place the American flags on the local city cemeteries, which are the largest cemeteries.

Post 128 will continue to purchase and distribute these flags to the local churches, as long as they contact the Post and tell us that you wish to participate. We will be happy to arrange a drop off or pick up of these flags, free of charge, to interested churches. Please contact a representative at this number: 229-675-8123. Have a blessed Memorial Day.

Thank you.

Ellen Wiseman Alston, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and devoted servant of her church and community, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 10, 2026 — Mother’s Day — surrounded by the love of her family. A true Southern lady known for her grace, kindness, steadfast faith, and servant’s heart, Ellen lived a life rich in love, purpose, and devotion to others.

A Church Service will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 11:00 AM, at Macedonia Baptist Church in Centerpoint, Georgia, with visitation immediately following the service. The Reverend Robert Orr will conduct the service.

In Lieu of Flowers: Donations may be made in Mrs. Ellen's memory to the Georgia Baptist Children's Home, 505 Waterworks Rd., Palmetto, GA 30268.

Born in Stewart County, Georgia, on February 8, 1936, Ellen was the daughter of Clifford and Florence Lee Jones Wiseman. She graduated from Richland High School in 1954 and later attended the Columbus School of Art, where she nurtured her love for creativity and beauty. Following her studies, she worked at Kirven’s Department Store in Columbus, Georgia as a buyer’s assistant, combining her artistic eye with her natural sense for style and elegance.

On March 31, 1957, she married the love of her life, Gordon Baker Alston. Together they built a beautiful life in Webster County, Georgia, rooted in faith, family, hard work, and enduring love. Their marriage was a shining example of devotion and partnership, and they shared a passion for traveling the world together while always remaining deeply connected to their home and community.

Ellen was a faithful member of Macedonia Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School, served faithfully in the WMU, and held leadership roles including director. Her love for the Lord was evident in the way she lived her life and cared for others.

She was also deeply involved in her community. Ellen was an active member of the Weston Women’s Club, serving over the years as president, treasurer, and in many other capacities. She also served several years on the Webster County Library Board. Alongside her husband, she was the dedicated bookkeeper and steady backbone of the family business, G. B. Alston Farms, until her retirement in 2015.

Above all else, Ellen cherished her family. She was a proud and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose greatest joy came from spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering love created a legacy that will continue for generations.

Ellen also had a spirit for the Georgia Bulldogs. On Saturdays in the fall, she could almost always be found cheering on her favorite team, enjoying the simple traditions she loved.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Florence Lee Jones Wiseman; her brothers, Jerry Wiseman and Jimmy Wiseman; and her son-in-law, Alan Adams.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 69 years, Gordon Baker Alston, Sr.; daughter, Leslye Adams Cook (Noel) of Albany; son, Gordon B. Alston, Jr. (Sandy) of Weston; grandchildren, Dr. Kyle Adams (Laine), Thomas Adams (Logan), Dr. Alston “AJ” Adams (Alexis), Kaitlyn Alston Wells (Ben), and Lyndsey Alston Breeden (Alex); and eight treasured great-grandchildren: Alan Adams, Sylvie Adams, Everett Adams, Landon Adams, Baker Adams, Mac Adams, Tucker Adams, and Nellie Breeden.

She is also survived by her brothers, Kenny Wiseman (Susan) of Weston and Clifford “Butch” Wiseman (Mary Sue) of Thompson; sisters-in-law, Earlene Wiseman of Ellaville and Faye Wiseman of Richland; along with many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Ellen Alston leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, dignity, and service. Her gentle spirit, generous heart, steadfast devotion to God, family, and community will be remembered always by those blessed to know and love her.
