To the followers of Mt. Prospect UMC, I hope you persevered through our service today. We had a lot of challenges: our musician was sick and I can’t carry a tune in a bucket! The live fb just quit in the middle. We had a glitch with the video as well. It felt like everything was going south! But I hope you got the gist of what I was trying to express…to fall in love with Jesus…for Him to be the last thing you think of as you close your eyes at night and the first thing you think of when you wake up in the morning. That you truly desire to love and know him more with each passing day. Thanks for persevering…especially while I was trying to sing!

Jenica Matos just pitched Cheshire High School to its second consecutive state championship, striking out 15 batters in a one-hit shutout on Saturday. She was named Most Outstanding Player of the title game.

Here's what makes her story extraordinary: Matos is legally blind. She was diagnosed with Stargardt disease, a rare genetic disorder that has progressively taken her central vision since childhood. Yet she just completed a season where she started every game, allowed only one earned run across 105 innings, and struck out 250 of 387 batters faced. The Rams finished 27-0.

In the semifinal round last weekend, Matos threw 26 strikeouts in a 12-inning pitcher's duel against Darien. On Saturday, she needed just seven innings to dominate Southington.

Despite losing her central vision, Matos relies on contrast and muscle memory. Her catcher wears a white chest protector with a black mitt to give her a target. From there, her pitching takes over. She's heading to St. John's on a full scholarship.

Her performance isn't just dominant. It's one of the most remarkable stories in sports.
