After corporate confession on Sunday mornings, we say this prayer of assurance together. It can be a blessing to your week as well — say the prayer to remind yourself of your identity as sons and daughters of God.

Church, lift your eyes and hear the good news from God’s Word:

1 John 1:9 CSB
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

In Christ, your confession is not met with condemnation, but with mercy. Jesus is faithful to forgive, righteous to cleanse, and strong enough to restore what sin and shame have tried to break. So continue in worship as forgiven people, welcomed by grace, held by Christ, and made new by the Spirit.

And now, as the forgiven and gathered people of God, let’s stand together and confess the faith handed down to the church through the generations.

The church is not the hero of the story. Jesus is. The church is not beautiful because we are impressive. The church is beautiful because Christ loved her and gave himself for her. The church is not secure because we are strong. The church is secure because Jesus said, “I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overpower it.”
