My name is José Luis Vélez, and today I am writing with my heart in my hands to ask for help for my wife, Milagros Soto.
Milagros is 39 years old and is a strong, loving woman filled with faith. She is a devoted wife and an extraordinary mother to our 15-year-old son, Rody Daniel, who lives with muscular dystrophy. Because of his condition, Rody depends on specialized care and assistance for many of his daily needs. Despite all the challenges our family has faced over the years, we have always moved forward with hope, love, and trust in God.
Today, we are facing one of the most difficult challenges of our lives.
Milagros has been diagnosed with advanced heart failure, a condition that has severely weakened the function of her heart. After numerous evaluations, treatments, and consultations with specialists, her doctors have determined that she needs surgery to receive an LVAD (Left Ventricular Assist Device), a specialized mechanical pump that will help her heart pump blood more effectively and give her a better chance to continue fighting for her life.
This journey has been physically, emotionally, and financially exhausting for our family. The costs associated with hospitalizations, medications, medical tests, transportation, lodging, and meals continue to grow every day.
In addition, I have had to put my work on hold so that I can remain by Milagros's side throughout this delicate process. Due to our family circumstances and our son's special needs, we do not have the support necessary to leave her alone while she faces this battle. At the same time, we continue to care for and support Rody Daniel, who requires constant attention because of his medical condition.
All of this has created an overwhelming emotional and financial burden on our family.
For this reason, we humbly turn to family members, friends, and kind-hearted individuals for support. Any contribution, no matter the amount, will be used to help cover medical expenses, medications, transportation, lodging, meals, and other essential needs that will continue to arise during Milagros's surgery and recovery process.
