“Real leadership means carrying what others cannot.”

This week’s Torah portion tells of the Jews travels in the desert, and how they transported the tabernacle and all its parts. The Torah tells us which part of the Levite tribe carried which parts of the tabernacle, and how. The vessels, including the altars and the holy ark, were carried by some of the Levites on their shoulders, while other parts were carried on wagons, by other Levites dedicated to those specific tasks. They carried it all, through all the journeys of the Jewish people for 40 years, so that whenever they settled, they were able to serve G-d properly. This was their leadership, and there is a powerful lesson in it for us. Leadership is not only about standing in front. Sometimes it means stepping underneath; carrying a burden that helps someone else, easing a challenge, or creating an opportunity for another person to succeed. Leadership is noticing those moments and stepping up when we can.

Some Mother's Day thoughts.
In Torah, the first woman is called Chava — “mother of all living” — not because she birthed everyone, but because she embodied the power to nurture life.

Whether you have children, grandchildren, students, friends, or community you care for, you carry that same power. As women you bring life, wisdom, and chesed into the world

Eishet Chayil, “A Woman of Valor.” It doesn’t praise her for having children. It praises her for strength, wisdom, kindness, and how “she opens her hand to the poor.” Proverbs 31

Some of us are mothers. Some are aunties, teachers, friends, daughters, and mentors. All of us shape the next generation through our words, our care, and our example.
Every act of nurturing is partnering with Hashem in creation. You are being partners in that holy work.
Happy Mother’s Day! 💕😊

As Passover begins and we celebrate our liberation from Egypt, we’re given a rare opportunity: to ignite not just one or two nights of light—but three in a row.

I invite you to join me. Let’s create a wave of light together—a steady, unbroken blaze to pierce the darkness of our times and draw down blessings of redemption, both personal and global.

Share the light. When one flame touches another, it doesn’t burn it - instead the two flames join together and become one blazing torch!
Be part of something bigger.

In Rhinebeck we light:
Wednesday April 1 at 7:03 pm
Thursday April 2 at 8:04 pm *from an already existing flame
Friday April 3 at 7:05 pm *from an already existing flame
