Church of the Messiah is located in historic Rhinebeck, New York, in the beautiful Hudson Valley. Our mission is to be a place where hard questions can be asked, the healing power of love experienced and the joy of worship celebrated. the true connections of real people in real life. We are on a journey that we invite you to join, knowing that we will b

e changed by your presence. We welcome that chance to know you and to love you . . . and together to live Jesus’ commandment to not be afraid. There are three Services each week. The Sunday 8am Service uses more traditional language and is a quieter service that is more meditative and reflective in character. The Sunday 10am Service also includes a sermon and Holy Communion as well as special music from our Choir and hymns sung by the Choir and Congregation. Love history and fine architecture? Rhinebeck's Church of the Messiah will be open from 11 until 1 on Memorial Day, May 25, with volunteers on hand to point out its unique interior features. The church, consecrated in 1899, contains fine craftsmanship of the Edwardian period (think Downtown Abbey), with oak wainscoting, Philadelphia pressed brick, and a ceiling made of cypress. The show stoppers are the magnificent stained glass windows, two of them by Tiffany. We hope you'll stop by 6436 Montgomery Street!

Join us May 21 for the final Third Thursday lunch of this season! 11:30 am to 1 pm.

All proceeds will benefit the English as Second Language Program, a longtime mission at the Church of the Messiah.

The menu will be slightly different as we welcome summer. We'll have a choice of Italian sub sandwich, tuna salad sandwich, or egg salad sandwich. In addition, there will be homemade pasta salad and deviled eggs. As always, the meal is topped off with delicious homemade desserts.

The cost is just $7.00 and takeout is available.

The luncheon is held in the Parish Hall directly behind the Church of the Messiah, 6432 Montgomery Street in Rhinebeck. See you Thursday, May 21!

The Church School enjoyed a crafty Earth Day last Sunday! The children made wind chimes out of materials found in the closet, and discussed ways we can take care of the planet that God gave us.

This Thursday, April 16, is Third Thursday! The menu is:

Sandwich Choice - Pulled Pork with Cole Slaw, Tuna Salad, or Egg Salad
Soup - Spring Pea or Tomato
Homemade Desserts
Coffee or Tea

It will be a special event as our beneficiary is the Third Thursday mission. The funding comes from generous donors and from fundraisers such as the Indoor Flea Market.

Third Thursday is a social event for community with an opportunity for people to gather and share a meal. In addition, various social services groups speak at the luncheon. These groups include the Grace Smith House, the Lunchbox in Poughkeepsie, Vets for Vets, River Haven Shelter for youth, and the Clubhouse. In addition, meals are prepared and delivered to Liberty House, transitional housing for homeless veterans.

Please join us! It is the best $7.00 lunch you will ever have! Takeout is available.

In February, the Third Thursday Luncheon at Church of the Messiah donated $1,008 to River Haven Shelter, an emergency housing program that supports runaway, homeless, and at-risk youth under the age of 18 in Poughkeepsie. In addition, people brought in 29 backpacks, suitcases or totes and a case of personal hygiene items. Thanks to everyone for supporting the Third Thursday program!

In March, Third Thursday is just after Saint Patrick's Day so we will be featuring an Irish-themed lunch menu: a choice of Corned Beef, Tuna Salad or Egg Salad sandwiches, with an Irish stew or a Hearty Potato soup.

As always, desserts will be homemade and outstanding. Coffee and tea will be served.

The lunch is $7.00 and takeout is available. All proceeds from the luncheon will be donated to The Clubhouse, our March beneficiary. The Hudson Valley Clubhouse offers people living with serious mental illness a supportive community to foster long-term recovery.

Volunteers are always welcome! Preparation begins Wednesday afternoon, March 18 at 1 until 3. On Thursday morning we begin at 10 to complete food preparation and setting up. Dessert can be dropped off Wednesday afternoon or Thursday morning. We are usually finished with cleanup by 3pm.

See you there!

Teens from Church of the Messiah in Rhinebeck and St. James', Hyde Park took part in Nightwatch, an overnight pilgrimage, at Cathedral of St. John the Divine, NYC over the weekend, along with teens from churches throughout The Episcopal Diocese of New York. Accompanied by Messiah's Fr. Austin and St. James' Mthr.
