A few of you have asked about the fact that The Next Step Ministries is to be an outreach to young people (which it is), yet there are several posts for men's bible study on this page. That is a great question! So I thought maybe I should explain a little.
Our heart has been to reach the teens that God brings before us and to reach out to those in our community. We are still working on the building in Reynoldsville and as the Lord provides we will continue to make improvements. The mission of The Next Step Ministries is to help young men and women, first come to salvation through the grace and mercy of the Lord Jesus Christ, second to grow in their relationship with their Lord and become more Christlike in their everyday lives, and third to serve the Lord and share their faith with those around them. In order to accomplish this, our goal is to have a center where teens are able to come and we are able to build relationships with them and then minister to them. This goal is still a work in progress.
We have however been able to get one of the rooms in the building suitable for Bible studies. Several months ago we had the opportunity to move a men's Bible study from our church to our Reynoldsville building. In thinking through our involvement with the men's Bible study and how that ties into our ministry with youth, it has become very evident that if we are to reach our young people and see them grow in their relationship with God it is very important to reach their parents. Specifically their fathers. In a document on Iron Sharpens Iron website, a Swiss government study shows that when men attend church irregularly or not at all, 2%-3% of their children will attend regularly. When the father attends regularly, 38%-44% of their children will attend regularly.
If we want to impact young people we have to reach the fathers as well. I don't think that we men really understand the full impact that we have on our children. Men are intended to be the spiritual leaders in their homes. Their boys will follow in the footsteps of their fathers, and the girls will learn from their fathers what to expect in a future husband.
Why do we do men's Bible study? Because we want to impact the youth around us and in our community.
