The congregation of the First Baptist Church of Reynoldsville, PA officially began on July 15, 1858 as the Soldier Run Baptist Church. They decided to build a church on February 23, 1861 and dedicated it in October 1865. A couple of decades later, the congregation committed to build a new church in Reynoldsville. The cornerstone was laid in June 1887 and the church was built the same year on Main
Street. The 2,250 pound bell, that rings in the tower today, was presented to the church in 1890 by the young people of the church. The inscription on the bell reads, “The Young Peoples' Society of faithful workers of the First Baptist Church, Reynoldsville, PA.” The Estey Pipe Organ was purchased in 1904 thanks to the generous donation of half its cost by Mr. The church was chartered as the First Baptist Church of Reynoldsville, Pennsylvania in 1907. Traveling artist, Mr. Fullerton, painted the murals and constructed the baptistery at the front of the sanctuary in 1949. Additions and renovations have continued over the decades for added classrooms, enlarging the fellowship hall, upgrading the organ, and making the fellowship hall more accessible. First Baptist Church of Reynoldsville, PA, however, has been more than a building because that has changed several times. It has been more than a name since that has changed twice. It has been and is a group of imperfect, Christian people who have sought to serve God and the community. It has seen periods of growth and periods of decline, of splits and healing. We thank the Lord for His blessing of this congregation over the years and for the heritage of faithful members who have served Him through good and difficult times.
