Faith Over Certainty

Faith is not blind optimism. Faith is confidence in the character of God. Abraham trusted because he knew who was calling him, even though he did not know where he was going.

Life often feels like driving through heavy fog. We can only see a short distance ahead. Yet God invites us to keep moving forward, trusting that He sees what we cannot.

Reflection Questions:

-What situations in my life feel uncertain right now?
-How has God proven Himself faithful in the past?
-What would it look like to trust God's character instead of demanding clear answers?

Action Step:
Write down three ways God has been faithful to you in the past.

Prayer:
Lord, when the future feels unclear, remind me that You are not. Help me place my confidence in Your faithfulness. Amen.

Good morning and welcome to the live stream of worship at First Christian Church!

We are grateful that you've joined us today as we continue our sermon series, "Imagine the God of Heaven." Today's message is titled "No GPS, Just God."

Life often presents us with unexpected turns, uncertain roads, and moments when we can't clearly see what lies ahead. In those times, God calls us to trust His guidance, follow His leading, and walk by faith even when we don't have all the answers. Together, we'll explore what it means to rely on God's direction and discover the peace that comes from placing our journey in His hands.

Whether you're worshiping with us from home, traveling, or joining us for the first time, we invite you to participate in worship, prayer, and reflection as we seek God's presence together.

Thank you for being with us today. May you be encouraged, challenged, and reminded that even when there is no GPS, God is faithfully leading the way.

Welcome to worship! 🙏✝️💙

The Power of Love
Scripture: 1 Corinthians 13:4–7

Paul speaks of the love of God—a love that is patient, kind, and enduring. God's love pursues us even when we wander. It never gives up on us.

Love is powerful because it changes people from the inside out. It softens hardened hearts, restores broken relationships, and brings hope where there was despair.

Reflection Questions:
When have you experienced God's love most clearly?
What relationship in your life could benefit from greater patience and compassion?
How can you reflect God's love in a practical way today?
Prayer:
God of love, fill me with Your compassion. Help me love others as You have loved me. Amen.

Fully Known, Fully Loved
Scripture: Romans 8:38–39

One of the most powerful themes in the sermon is the reminder that God knows everything about us and loves us completely. We often fear being truly known because we worry others will reject us. Yet God sees every mistake, every regret, every hidden struggle—and still loves us.

This is the heart of the gospel. God's love is not earned by perfection. It is given because God is love.

Reflection Questions:
What parts of yourself do you find difficult to bring before God?
How does it change your perspective to know that God fully knows you and still loves you?
How can you share that same acceptance with someone else this week?
Prayer:
Loving God, thank You for knowing me completely and loving me unconditionally. Help me rest in Your love today. Amen.

Today is World Cycling Day, and it reminds me that faith is often more like riding a bicycle than we realize.

Cycling teaches us that progress doesn't always come quickly. Some roads are smooth, while others are steep and challenging. There are days when the wind is at our backs and days when it feels like we're pushing uphill every mile. Yet we keep pedaling, trusting that each turn of the wheel moves us forward.

Our spiritual journey is much the same. We don't always see the destination God has prepared for us, but we are called to keep moving in faith. Scripture reminds us, "Let us not grow weary in doing what is right, for we will reap at harvest time if we do not give up" (Galatians 6:9).
Cycling also reminds us to noti
ce the beauty around us. When we slow down enough to take in the scenery, we discover God's fingerprints everywhere—in the sunshine, the breeze, the laughter of neighbors, and the simple gift of being alive.

So on this World Cycling Day, may we remember:
To keep moving forward, even when the road is difficult.
To trust God through every uphill climb.
To enjoy the blessings found along the journey.
And to encourage fellow travelers who are riding beside us.

The Christian life isn't just about reaching the finish line. It's about faithfully traveling the road God has set before us, one pedal stroke at a time.

Grace That Meets Us in Weakness
Scripture: 2 Corinthians 12:9
"My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness."

Grace is God's gift to us when we least deserve it. It is forgiveness offered freely, love given without conditions, and mercy extended when we fall short.
Paul learned that God's strength shines brightest through human weakness. We don't have to hide our struggles from God. Instead, our weaknesses become places where His grace can work most deeply.

Reflection Questions:
What weakness or struggle are you carrying today?
How have you experienced God's grace during a difficult season?
Is there an area of your life where you need to accept God's grace rather than trying harder on your own?
Prayer:
Jesus, thank You for grace that is greater than my failures. Help me trust that Your strength is enough for me today. Amen.

Blending a congregational Day of Volunteering with Creation Care
On Saturday, September 12, Disciples communities across the U.S. and Canada will gather for a Day of Volunteering as part of Disciples Mission Week 2026. Green Chalice invites you to imagine projects that hold both people and planet together.

A community garden that feeds neighbors facing food insecurity. A creek cleanup that protects local water. A tree planting that cools a neighborhood and stores carbon. A repair or weatherization day that lowers energy costs for those who need it most. Isaiah 58 reminds us that when we pour ourselves out for the hungry and the afflicted, our light rises in the darkness.

Whether you are supporting an existing ministry or planting the seed of a new one, let this be a day where loving our neighbor and loving the earth become one act of faith.
