Since St. Matthew was a tax collector, we shouldn't be surprised that his Gospel references money the most! Today, consider reflecting on the story of the fish with the coin, from Matthew 17:24-27. The coin that pays for both Jesus and Peter is a sign of the Lord's saving death on the cross, which will "pay for" the sins of the world.

For more than 60 years, Fulton J. Sheen began each day with a Holy Hour before the Blessed Sacrament.

Not to prepare a talk.
Not to plan a mission.
But to be with Christ.

From that hidden hour flowed a global mission—millions reached and over $200 million raised for the missions.

Prayer was not separate from his work.
It was the source of it.

As Msgr. James Shea says, Sheen was “the greatest apostle of the Eucharistic Holy Hour in Church history.”

What if your prayer could do more than you think?

Offer one Holy Hour this week for the missions.

Today's Gospel has a strong connection to a passage we heard proclaimed during Lent: the story of Jesus and the Samaritan woman. At the conclusion of that passage, the woman runs back to town to tell everyone about what Jesus has told her. As the townspeople begin to make their way out to the well to see Jesus, he tells the Twelve to "lift up [their] eyes, and see the fields are white for harvest." What were they looking at? The white head coverings and clothing of the Samaritans.

It's a good reminder that often, the people we are supposed to speak the Word to are RIGHT in front of us.

Today, let's ask the Lord for the strength to proclaim his Word to our neighbors here within the boundaries of St. Michael the Archangel Pastorate.
