On December 9 we celebrate the memory of Saint Juan Diego.

It was on this day in 1531 that the Aztec visionary Saint Juan Diego received the first of a number of visions of the Mother of God on “Mount Tepeyac,” near Mexico City. In the final encounter, on December 12, the Lady left an image of herself on Juan Diego’s cactus-fiber cloak. Today, this image is enshrined in the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City.

Recognizing the long-standing devotion to this indigenous Mexican, Pope Saint John Paul II canonized Juan Diego in 2002.

Saint Juan Diego, pray for us.

It's a new day - a new Advent. Why go about your prep in the same ways? God has something powerful to share with you that's a response to your prayers. How will you listen for God's still, small voice?❤️

You've heard the statement, 'Is there enough evidence to prove you are a Catholic Christian?' What if being a person of faith meant you were perceived as a fool? God give me the grace to live like Jesus did!

We are deeply saddened by the recent death of Kristen Avansino. Her compassion and desire to help others profoundly affected so many in the community and we are so thankful for her philanthropic work. Kristen was an ardent supporter of Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada over the years and played an instrumental role in the construction of the St. Vincent’s Dining Room. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Avansino family. Eternal rest grant unto Kristen, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace.
