We were blessed to have the opportunity to celebrate our accreditation with many of our staff, students, and families. We were especially blessed that Bishop Ilia was able to join us in our celebration.

We always love watching friendships grow between our students. These 3 kiddos are distant in age but close in heart (grade 1, grade 3, and grade 6).

Our Middle School and High School students have been studying Sherlock Holmes in their classes. Mr. Combo came up with the idea to have the students and staff dress up as characters from "The Hounds of the Baskervilles." The students and staff are compiling costumes and props for our photoshoot next week.

Our elementary students are working on our Native American Unit. These are Wampum belts. They were made with repeating patterns, and beaded designs. They usually told a story, and were given as gifts to commemorate events with other tribes, and used in ceremonies.

We are very proud of all of our students, but one student deserves special recognition. We realized that Nikolai was ready for middle school, so we promoted him from 5th grade to 6th grade last week. Nik is super smart, and always does well when challenged academically, so we haven’t been surprised to see him rise to the occasion. Congratulations, Nik!

The elementary students have been studying fossils, particularly dinosaur fossils this week. We are exploring how they are discovered, how archeologists excavate them, and how paleontologists use them to piece together history and make scientific observations!

Welcome to the SNOA Family Halie!

September 20, 2021

Hello! My name is Halie Zimmerman, and I will be teaching elementary level students this year at Saint Nicholas. I am almost a Nevada native (-2 years), and graduated from UNR with my teaching degree with my dear husband. After teaching for a few years in Las Vegas, I became a stay at home, homeschool mom. I have been homeschooling for the last 12 years. I have 3 children myself, 2 of which are also attending Saint Nicholas. You might see me and my family at Saint Anthony's, or on the football and soccer fields. I enjoy reading, cooking, camping, and gardening, although I am not very successful at gardening. We have chickens, rabbits, dogs, and cats who rule the house. I am very excited to get back into the classroom and teach your children this year, and look forward to meeting everyone!

Welcome to the SNOA Family Dan!
September 14, 2021

Hello! I am originally from Montana. I graduated from the University of Montana (Go Griz!) with a B.S. in Business Administration and Certification in Business Education. Not long after I received a master’s degree in Educational Technology at the University of San Francisco. I spent my professional career teaching high school in Fallon, Nevada. I have a passion for teaching and utilizing technology in the process of learning. I am adept at Adobe and Microsoft Applications. Digital media is an engaging science and I enjoy sharing this passion with my students. I am a Nationally Board Certified Teacher in Career and Technology Education. I am an avid photographer. I’m excited to be here at St. Nicholas Orthodox Academy.

Our elementary students made two posters, one thanking the firefighters and one thanking Animal Control.

The Petrilla fire, that scorched about 350 acres, came dangerously close to St. Nicholas Orthodox Academy on Wednesday, June 16. Even though the fire burned some of our property, no buildings were harmed, thanks to the firefighters who protected our buildings. The school’s two mini horses and shepherds were in danger, and Animal Control officers rounded them up and took them to safety. They then helped us reunite with our horses and dogs to get them back home when it was safe to do so.

Our students made the posters to thank the firefighters and Animal Control officers. We will proudly display them on the front of the main school building. We are very grateful to all of these heroes!

Of course, all students and staff were evacuated when the fire first started. We were not able to return to the area for over 5 hours because of road closures. When we did return, we were delighted to see that our buildings were still standing. We will be forever grateful to those first responders who truly saved the day!
