It's been awhile since I posted on here. But I have a question for you to consider. I was studying three or four weeks ago and this popped into my mind.
Have you ever considered, do you ask God to bless your food or ask God to bless you with your food? I think it is an interesting question. Which is the correct? In Deuterronomy 8:10 we can see that they asked a blessing after eating, not before. Also, the word bless is to praise not ask. So, after eating they praised God for His provisions. In Exodus 23:25, God said that He would bless their food. But is that the same thing as us asking God's blessings?
In Exodus, when we look into the verse we can see that it is a contract. The proverbial if-then statement. God is saying, if we do what God asks us to do then He will bless us with food and water.
So, what am I getting at? As I was reading, I wondering are we asking God to bless our food. Shouldn't we be asking Him to bless us through our food. In the Bible we see people and groups of people praising God for the food. The food itself isn't in need of blessings. It is there so we can be blessed. So, the next time you sit down to eat, try thanking God for the food and asking that He might bless you with it.
