If you haven't ever tuned in to Mike Moore's daily news report, now is the time to do it. He keeps up to date on all kinds of news but today's report is full of local contributions to the Helene victims in the Asheville area. I listen to him every day and we share news tips with each other. Just thought you might like to know about his broadcasts. He also does pod casts with many local residents about a variety of events. And you can listen any time of the day or even a day or so later! It's a great place to learn about local events.
For those former residents who now live elsewhere, this is a good place to keep up with what's happening in your hometown!

For several years, I have needed to have some tree work done around my home but I never got anyone to give me a decent rate until my neighbor had someone removing some trees and doing some work for her. I watch the workers for most of the day and was impressed with not only their work but their attitudes about it. Finally, I spoke with the owner, Ryan Johnson, who walked around my house, making suggestions, and then told me he would work with me on it as I needed it done. He understood that, living on Social Security, I couldn't afford a lot at once. He said he would do the work when he came back to my neighbor's house. A few weeks later and a nice man said they were ready to start my work. He asked if I wanted to show him what I wanted done or if I wanted him to treat it as if it was his yard. I chose the second option and they got busy. Now, I no longer feel as I am living in a jungle and am so proud of how much nicer my yard looks and at a price I could afford. Since Then, I have had several people tell me how great this company is and I thoroughly agree. So, with all this weather coming in, you may need some work in your yard. I strongly suggest you call Ryan at Johnson Tree Service. You will be very happy with the results and his price. 336-323-8733. I am including a couple of pictures - of them working and of the clean yard - They moved ALL debris - even branches, etc. from before they came as well as went up on my roof and cleaned it off!

I am transcribing some handwritten notes for a friend and the writer was born/grew up in the Williamsburg Community near the Caswell County line. Is anyone familiar with a Slade's School in that area about 1900? I don't think I have EVER heard of it. He also mentions Lexnox Castle and a couple of other places with which I am familar. If you know ANYTHING about this school or area, please send me the information. Hope you have a good and blessed weekend.

My friend Myra Elam is having a birthday on Wednesday and I should have sent this sooner. Even if it's late, please consider sending her a card and maybe even putting in a couple of bucks since she is on limited income. Last year, we did a card shower for her and she loved it. She has fallen several times and had to have about a dozen clamps in her head the last time so she needs some cheering up! You might even consider dropping her a "Thinking of You" card in the mail to her on occasion. Thank you so much for anything you do to help cheer up this dear sweet friend of mine who wb 86 Wednesday! Love you all.

I'm hoping everyone can get the message out about a special program at 4 p.m. Sunday at RCC's audition. Caroling for Cans will feature Emcee Rob Compton, several special presentations by talented musicians, audience sing-a-longs,, and Ventriloquist Josh and his friends for the children.

After the approximately one-hour program children can visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus and Josh and his characters will greet them while they are awaiting their turn. A good time to get photos of the kids with Santa as well as with Josh's child-size characters.

The eight agencies of the Rockingham County Food Coalition will be on hand as will some vendors so it can be a fun afternoon for everyone.

Admission is a donation of cans of food to be distributed to needy families just in time for Christmas.
