Obituary & Services

Kenneth Howard Capps, 78, went home to be with his Lord on March 11, 2026 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.

A native of Guilford Co., he was a son of the late Howard Zeno and Clara Josephine Stanly Capps and he had lived in Rockingham Co. most of his life. Ken was a member of Trinity Missionary Baptist Church and a retired Staff Sgt in the US Army where he served in Vietnam. During his time in Vietnam, Ken served in the infantry as a “Tunnel Rat” where he earned 3 Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star and other numerous medals. After serving in the army he was a member of the N.C. National Guard and was on the State Rifle Team. Ken was also known as “Santa Ken” to many children for 26 years. He never met a child or adult that didn’t call him Santa. He loved the outdoors and he loved fishing and hunting. Ken was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Ricky Allen Capps.

Surviving is his wife of 20 years: Labree Madren Capps, his children: Lisa Capps Wrenn (Tim), Kenneth Lee Capps (Jessica), Christy Martin (Eric), Whitney Steadman (Joe) and Jesselee Hopper (Whitney), 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren and special friends: Dianne Saintsing and Terry Smith.

The family will see friends from 6:00PM till 8:00 PM Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at Citty Funeral Home. A Celebration of His Life will be held by the family, with Military Rites, at a later date.

The family asks that memorials be made to: Tunnel to Towers 2361 Hylan Blvd. Staten Island, NY 10306 or to Wounded Warrior Project P.O. Box 758516 Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516
