Good Morning and Happy Saturday

Be a Builder
Daily In The Word
Saturday, June 13, 2026

For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is.
1 Corinthians 3:11-13

Every day we have an opportunity to build on the foundation we have been given as believers in Jesus Christ. This work of building is not meant for our own benefit (although we do reap rewards for our labor) but for the benefit of the body of Christ. Every one of us needs other Christians to help us grow and stay on the right path. This is why 1 Thessalonians 5:11 instructs, “Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.”

Yet there is another path some choose to take. Some people have no interest in helping others, focusing only on themselves. Often these people attempt to make themselves feel better by tearing down others. If this approach goes on long enough, the consequences can go from destructive to deadly. Paul warned the Galatians, “For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another” (Galatians 5:14-15).

It is easier to tear others down than to build them up, but that is never the course to take. Someone wrote a poem about a conversation with a construction supervisor tearing down a large building called “A Builder or a Wrecker?” that ends with these lines.

Am I a builder who works with care,
Measuring life by rule and square?
Am I shaping my work to a well-made plan
Patiently doing the best I can?

Or am I a wrecker who walks to town
Content with the labor of tearing down?
"O Lord let my life and my labors be
That which will build for eternity!"

Today's Growth Principle
Look for opportunities today to encourage, help, motivate and bless others, and it will be a day well spent.

Caltrops

And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.
Acts 13:52

Earlier this year in Michigan the North Shore Police Department warned motorists that someone was placing caltrops on the highways. These are small, sharp objects meant to puncture and deflate car tires. As we all know, tires need to be filled with air; they are useless when flat.

Recommended Reading:
Acts 13:48-51

The devil is constantly throwing caltrops in our pathway. We’re to be filled with the Spirit, but he endeavors to deflate us. Have you felt deflated recently? The normal and victorious Christian experience means being filled with the Spirit. When you’re filled with the Spirit of God, your life will be different. You will have a song in your heart, a spirit of thanksgiving in your personality, and a yearning to bless others (Ephesians 5:18-21). You’ll also have a contagious motivation to share the Word of God with others (Acts 4:31).

Allow the Holy Spirit to guide your steps as you choose to have a positive influence on others. Open your life fully to the Lord Jesus Christ and ask Him to keep you inflated and filled with His Spirit today.

The Spirit-filled life is not a deluxe edition of Christianity. It is part and parcel of the total plan of God for His people.

Giving Back
Daily In The Word
Sunday, May 31, 2026

I believed, therefore have I spoken: I was greatly afflicted: I said in my haste, All men are liars. What shall I render unto the LORD for all his benefits toward me? I will take the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the LORD. I will pay my vows unto the LORD now in the presence of all his people.
Psalm 116:10-14

Major Fred Hargesheimer was shot down over Papua New Guinea in 1943 during World War II. Despite the injuries he suffered before parachuting out of his falling plane, Hargesheimer evaded capture with the help of the inhabitants of the village of Ea Ea. For months, they risked their lives to protect him until he was finally taken off the island on a submarine. After the war, Hargesheimer returned to Minnesota, but he never forgot those who had protected him. In 1960, he returned to the village and helped build what became known as the Airmen’s Memorial School with funds he had raised in America. He continued giving back with additional trips and further buildings, including a library with donated books. He even lived in the village for four years. Hargesheimer spent the rest of his life giving back to those who had rescued him.

We have been rescued from a far greater threat than capture by enemy soldiers. We were facing eternal separation from God in Hell until Jesus stepped in and made the payment we owed. We do not earn either our salvation or extra merit with God for doing good works for Him. Yet in gratitude for salvation freely given through His grace, we should spend every day being grateful for what His sacrifice and live fully for Him. As Paul said, "For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead: And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again" (2 Corinthians 5:14–15).

Today's Growth Principle
We display gratitude to God for His salvation when we invest our hearts and minds and resources in His kingdom.

Only His Power
Daily In The Word
Friday, May 22, 2026

And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
2 Corinthians 12:7-9

It’s hard to think of someone who accomplished more for God’s kingdom than the Apostle Paul. He took the gospel to places it had never been heard, winning people to Christ and founding churches across much of the Roman Empire. He had all the formal training and credentials that anyone could want. Yet all that success also posed a danger—that Paul would be lifted up and become proud through focusing on himself rather than on God. That is why the thorn in the flesh was so important. God refused to remove it because it served as a constant reminder of Paul’s need for God’s grace.

Nothing that we attempt to do in our own strength and ability has any possibility of success for God. Jesus said, “I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing” (John 15:5).

We must never let anything that we have accomplished for God draw our focus or attention away from Him. We must never become proud and think that God needs our help. It is only through His presence and power that anything can succeed. After years of faithful service to God as a missionary in China, Hudson Taylor wrote, “I used to ask God if He would come and help me. Then I asked if I could come and help Him. Finally, I ended by asking God to do His own work through me."

Today's Growth Principle
Our power and plans can accomplish nothing apart from God.

Good Morning

OTHERS ARE WATCHING
May 20, 2026
Max Lucado

A vibrant, shining face is the mark of one who has stood in God’s presence. After speaking to God, Moses had to cover his face with a veil. But not only does God change the face of those who worship; he changes those who watch us worship.

Paul told the Corinthian church to worship in such a way that if an unbeliever entered, “he would find…the secrets of his heart revealed; and…would fall down on his face and worship God…” (1 Corinthians 14:25 NKJV)

Seekers may not understand all that happens in a house of worship. They may not understand the meaning of a song or the significance of communion. But they know joy when they see it. And when they see your face changed, they may want to see God’s face. People, including your family, are watching. Believe me. They are watching.
