A New Children’s Chapel with Wall Paintings at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, Fleeton, Virginia

St. Mary’s has opened a new children’s chapel with wall paintings to give young worshippers a welcoming place of prayer, imagination, and belonging. The chapel brings together gentle colors, child-friendly artwork that help tell the stories of faith in a way children can see, wonder about, and remember.
A Special Prayer Space Made for our Children
The new chapel is intended to help children feel at home in church. Its scale, artwork, and quiet atmosphere invite families to pray together while giving children room to engage with Christian symbols and stories at their own level. The space can also support children’s worship, teaching, family prayer, and moments of reflection before or after worship.
Wall Paintings that show the beauty of God’s creation
The wall paintings designed and painted by Artist Mary Kathryn Hall are at the heart of the chapel. The artwork includes a scripture passage, trees and local Northern Neck birds and butterflies showing part of God’s beautiful creation. In a church setting, painted walls can make sacred stories visible, helping children learn through color, pattern, and image as well as through words. This is our hope here at St. Mary’s.

For the parish, the children’s chapel is more than a decorated room. It is a sign that children are not only part of the future of the Church, but a living part of its present worshipping community. By creating a beautiful place especially for them, St. Mary’s offers families a space where faith can be nurtured with warmth, reverence, and joy.

The Children’s Ministry is offered at the same time of the adult service every Sunday at 11:15am. We are child oriented, and each Sunday lesson in this sweet chapel includes a Bible lesson, lively discussion on bean bags, prayer, and music with movement. Afterwards, children enjoy crafts in the craft room. All ages from birth through 5th grade are cordially invited. We hope you will join us soon!

The Northern Neck Region of the Diocese of Virginia met on Wednesday to consider the weather conditions and the risks associated with the storm. All Episcopal churches will remain closed until weather conditions improve.

I will be offering an online service of Morning Prayer at 10am this coming Sunday (February 1st.
This service is open to all, so please feel free to invite your family and friends. After the service there will be time to chat and catch up with each other.
