He is Risen! A Blessed Resurrection Sunday from Reformed Bible Church

Today we celebrate the glorious historical reality of the empty tomb. Christ’s resurrection is the final seal of our justification and the bedrock of our living hope. Because He lives, the infinite debt of our sin has been fully paid, and we are clothed in His perfect righteousness!

"But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For as by a man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive." (1 Cor. 15:20-22, ESV)

Join us this morning as we exalt our risen Savior and rest our hope entirely on the perfect Word of God. Christ is risen indeed!

Church Family,

It is with heavy hearts that we ask you to join us in prayer for our local law enforcement and our neighboring communities. On Monday afternoon and into Tuesday morning, a profound tragedy unfolded in Christian County. Two sheriff's deputies were killed in the line of duty, and two others were wounded.

Deputy Gabriel Ramirez (30) was fatally shot during a traffic stop near Highlandville. Hours later, during a shootout with the suspect, Deputy Michael Hislope (40) was killed while courageously trying to reach and rescue his wounded fellow officers. Both of these men were Army veterans who had served overseas in combat before returning home to protect and serve our community here in Missouri.

We also lift up in prayer Christian County Deputy Josh Wahl and Webster County Deputy Austin McCall, who were both wounded in the exchange and are currently recovering.

In times of senseless violence and profound loss, we turn to the truth of Scripture, resting in the sovereign providence of God. We know that God has ordained the civil magistrate to bear the sword for the public good, to protect the innocent, and to maintain justice. These men laid down their lives in the faithful ex*****on of that duty.

"Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends" (John 15:13).

As a church body, let us weep with those who weep. Pray earnestly for the wives, children, and families of Deputy Ramirez and Deputy Hislope, whose lives have been forever altered. Pray that the God of all comfort would draw near to them in this dark valley.

"The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit" (Psalm 34:18).

May we honor their sacrifice, and may we continually pray for the safety of all those who put on the uniform to keep our communities safe.

"And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth." — John 1:14

Today we do not merely celebrate a birth, but the Incarnation. The infinite God took on a true human nature, yet without sin, to be the perfect Mediator for His people. We rejoice that Christ humbled Himself to secure our redemption.
Soli Deo Gloria.

A simple analogy would be a cup of tea. In this analogy your mind is the cup of hot water and the tea bag represents your intake of Scripture. Hearing God’s Word is like one dip of the tea bag into the cup. Some of the tea’s flavor is absorbed by the water, but not as much as would occur with a more thorough soaking of the bag. Reading, studying, and memorizing God’s Word are like additional plunges of the tea bag into the cup. The more frequently the tea enters the water, the more permeating its effect. Meditation, however, is like immersing the bag completely and letting it steep until all the rich tea flavor has been extracted and the hot water is thoroughly tinctured reddish brown. Meditation on Scripture is letting the Bible brew in the brain. Thus we might say that as the tea colors the water, meditation likewise “colors” our thinking. When we meditate on Scripture it colors our thinking about God, about God’s ways and His world, and about ourselves. Similarly, as the tea bag flavors the water, so through meditation we consistently “taste” or experience the reality taught in the text. The information on the page becomes experience in our hearts and minds and lives. Reading the Bible tells the believer, for example, of God’s love. Meditation is more likely to convince him or her of it personally and, in biblically appropriate ways, to cause a person to feel loved by God.

1 How blessed are those whose way is blameless,

Who walk in the law of Yahweh.

2 How blessed are those who observe His testimonies,

They seek Him with all their heart.

3 They also do not work unrighteousness;

They walk in His ways.

4 You have commanded us,

To keep Your precepts diligently.

5 Oh may my ways be established

To keep Your statutes!

6 Then I shall not be ashamed

When I look upon all Your commandments.

7 I shall give thanks to You with uprightness of heart,

When I learn Your righteous judgments.

8 I shall keep Your statutes;

Do not forsake me utterly!

9 How can a young man keep his way pure?

By keeping it according to Your word.

10 With all my heart I have sought You;

Do not let me stray from Your commandments.

11 Your word I have treasured in my heart,

That I may not sin against You.

12 Blessed are You, O Yahweh;

Teach me Your statutes.

13 With my lips I have recounted

All the judgments of Your mouth.

14 I have rejoiced in the way of Your testimonies,

As much as in all riches.

15 I will muse upon Your precepts

And look upon Your ways.

16 I shall delight in Your statutes;

I shall not forget Your word.
