Create Our Own Story

(Passage)
While Jesus was speaking to them, a ruler came and knelt in front of him, saying, “My daughter has just died. But come and place your hand on her, and she’ll live.” So Jesus and his disciples got up and went with him. Then a woman who had been bleeding for twelve years came up behind Jesus and touched the hem of his clothes. She thought, If I only touch his robe I’ll be healed.

When Jesus turned and saw her, he said, “Be encouraged, daughter. Your faith has healed you.” And the woman was healed from that time on.

Matthew 9:18-22

(Prayer)
God of vision and strength, help me focus on you in spite of the situations I am experiencing. Let me see all that is possible in your name.
Amen. 🙏

Ways to Give Thanks

(Passage)
Give thanks to the Lord with the lyre! Sing praises to him with the ten-stringed harp! Sing to him a new song! Play your best with joyful shouts! Because the Lord’s word is right, his every act is done in good faith. He loves righteousness and justice; the Lord’s faithful love fills the whole earth.
Psalm 33:2-5

(Prayer)
O God, I come to you as I am to give thanks for all that you have given me with joy and enthusiasm. May I share the joy of knowing you with others in various ways and places. In your name I pray,
Amen.

Memorial Day Prayer:

Almighty God, we commend to your gracious care and keeping those who serve in our armed forces at home and abroad. As we remember this Memorial Day all those who sacrificed themselves for our nation’s ideals, defend with your heavenly grace all who risk themselves in these times; strengthen them in their trials and temptations; give them courage to face the perils which beset them; and grant them a sense of your abiding presence wherever they may be; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Arrival of the Spirit

This week’s theme: Filled with the Spirit

(Pause)
Stop for a moment. Take a deep breath. God’s Spirit is closer than you imagine, moving in your life even now. Open your heart to listen.

(Passage)
When Pentecost Day arrived, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound from heaven like the howling of a fierce wind filled the entire house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be individual flames of fire alighting on each one of them. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages as the Spirit enabled them to speak.

Acts 2:1-4

(Insight by Jhanderys Dotel-Vellenga)
"The disciples were gathered, waiting. They didn’t know exactly what was going to happen; they just trusted in Jesus’ promise that the Spirit would come. And then it happens: wind, fire, voices. The Spirit comes in a way that is impossible to ignore. Sometimes we think that God’s presence will always be gentle and quiet. But this moment reminds us that it can also be powerful, transforming, unexpected.

The Spirit moves, shakes, awakens. It breaks fear and kindles courage. There may not always be visible signs as at Pentecost, but that does not mean that the Spirit is not at work. Many times, the Spirit’s work is deep within: changing hearts, renewing strength, giving clarity, affirming righteousness. To be filled with the Spirit is to be open to this movement, even when we do not fully understand it. Today, perhaps, God is working in you more than you can see."

(Prayer)
Spirit of God, move in my life. Give me courage to receive the new you bring. Transform my heart according to your will.
Amen. 🙏

Different Gifts

(Pause)
Stop for a moment.
Take a deep breath.
God’s Spirit is closer than you imagine, moving in your life even now. Open your heart to listen.

(Passage)
There are different spiritual gifts but the same Spirit; and there are different ministries and the same Lord; and there are different activities but the same God who produces all of them in everyone. A demonstration of the Spirit is given to each person for the common good.
1 Corinthians 12:4-7

(Prayer)
God, help me to recognize the gifts you have placed in me. Teach me to value them and use them for the good of others. Open my eyes to see your work in my life.
Amen
