Bittersweet goodbyes are never easy.

This past weekend, our St. James family gathered to celebrate and thank Fr. Jonathan for the incredible impact he made as our Associate Pastor in such a short time. His final Mass was made even more special with his best friend, Fr. Louie Reyes, and Deacon Bob concelebrating alongside him, surrounded by a church filled with parishioners who came to wish him well.

Following Mass, our Youth Ministry and Young Adult Ministry —few of the many communities Fr. Jonathan invested in so deeply—hosted a farewell celebration filled with laughter, gratitude, and tacos shared among family and friends.

Thank you, Fr. Jonathan, for your joyful spirit, faithful leadership, and the countless lives you’ve touched. We wish you God’s abundant blessings as you begin your new assignment as Administrator of Holy Trinity in Atwater Village.

Please keep Fr. Jonathan, our new Associate Pastor Fr. Louis Sung, and all of our priests beginning new assignments in your prayers. May God continue to guide and strengthen them as they faithfully answer His call.

Recently, we had the joy of celebrating our Pastor, Fr. Matt Murphy, on his 10th Anniversary of Ordination and an early birthday! 🎉🙏

The celebration began with a beautiful Mass, concelebrated with Deacon Bob Miller and Deacon Bob Seidler, with Fr. Matt’s family bringing up the offertory gifts. It was a blessing to see so many parishioners gathered to give thanks for his decade of faithful priesthood.

The reception that followed was filled with laughter, heartfelt stories, and familiar faces—friends, family, parishioners, and fellow priests who have walked alongside Fr. Matt throughout his journey. Thank you, Fr. Matt, for your faithful leadership, joyful spirit, and the many ways you continue to shepherd our parish. Happy 10 years of priesthood! May God continue to bless you abundantly. 🖤🩶

This past Saturday, we celebrated a special accomplishment for our priest-in-residence, Fr. Chibuike! 🎓

Fr. Chibuike recently completed his Master’s Degree at LMU, and we are grateful to have shared in this joyful milestone with him. Please join us in congratulating him on his hard work, dedication, and achievement. May God continue to bless him in his ministry and future endeavors!

Fr Jonathan has graced us with his priestly ministry for the past year. Join us as we send him forward with our prayers to his new assignment as Administrator at Holy Trinity - Atwater Village.

All events will take place in Kavanagh Hall.

Conor Sullivan, SJS Class of 2023 and Boy Scout, will host an Auto Maintenance Clinic at Saint James School on Saturday, May 30, 2026, from 10 A.M.–12 P.M. as his Eagle Scout Project. Families will enjoy hands-on learning stations covering basic car maintenance, accident preparedness, and how cars work. Parents may also join a Q&A with a Ferrari technician or enjoy the car show.

All are welcome, including older siblings. Guests may come and go throughout the event. RSVP is encouraged but not required. Forms for RSVP and car show participation are available online.
