On March 29 (Palm Sunday), Pastor Paul Newell passed from this life into the next with his own triumphal entry into heaven.
While we grieve his unexpected absence, we take comfort knowing we haven’t lost him, only that Jesus has welcomed him home.
Pastor Paul served in pastoral ministry since the early 1980s. It was in 2003, that he and his steadfast wife, Miss Terrie, began leading Church for Family in Beaumont, Ca. For over 20 years, they served as a bridge to Christ for countless families & generations in the Pass area.
In 2022, God started stirring a new vision of unity & partnership when Pastor Paul and Pastor Mike first met. They spent over six months praying & dreaming together about Church for Family joining Gospel Community Church (GCC).
In 2023, that dream became a reality as Pastor Paul and Terrie led a group from Church for Family to become one with GCC.
From that moment on, Pastor Paul became a steady, monumental pillar in our church. He served on our Teaching Team, helping us practically understand & apply God’s Word. He lovingly counseled many individuals & marriages, helped shape the vision for GCC’s future, and never missed an opportunity to love people well.
In 2024, he joined the elder board & continued serving faithfully, both publicly & behind the scenes. His deep love for Scripture, his wisdom, and his passion for seeing marriages thrive were true gifts to our leadership team and congregation.
Pastor Paul’s homecoming on Palm Sunday feels especially meaningful. He was deeply moved this year by the rare alignment of Holy Week with the actual dates of 33 AD. And so it seems somehow fitting for his call home to be in “alignment”, that’s how he lived his entire life.
This week, although we grieve deeply, it is a profound gift to be able to gather as the body of Christ, to remember the work of the cross, & celebrate Jesus’ Resurrection that Pastor Paul proclaimed so faithfully.
Please join us in praying for Terrie, his children, his students at Western Christian, & grandchildren as they figure out how to pick up the pieces & move forward as a family.
Details will soon be shared about a Celebration of Life to honor Pastor Paul.
