WHAT DO YOU STAND FOR?

It seems evident that, since we will spend eternity in the presence of God and live seventy years or so, on this earth, we should be more concerned about what we will receive then compared to what we are getting now. When we review our priorities, it is apparent that most Christians live without hope. We are willing to settle for what we can see, rather than what is unseen, or eternal.

Material things are not what cause our difficulties. God says that He will give us the things that the world cherishes. Ponder the following question; are you more dedicated to accumulating material things than to serving God? The evidence shows that most Christians are serving money more than they serve God.

Matthew 6:33 states, “Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” The question is often asked, “What do you actually stand for?” The answer most unsaved people would give is “not much other than what Christians do.”

The sad part of all this is that most people want to know a personal god. As believers, we have the only hope for a world that is without hope. Let us not spend so much of our time pursuing vain things. The question I leave with you today is,

“What do you stand for?”

GIVING AND TITHING

In his Christian Worker’s Handbook, Dr. Billy Graham states that our giving has to be out of a heart filled with God’s love in order for ones giving to be effective before God. This giving includes giving our tithe and more to God. It also includes giving generously to those in need.

We have found in our homes, as have thousands of others that God blesses the nine tenths when we tithe, and he causes it to go farther than the tenth with His blessings. How you handle your money is an optional matter; God does not force you to give. There are certain Biblical principles concerning stewardship. God owns everything.

Whatever we give belongs to God anyway. Secondly, our giving should always be prompted by love, and personal commitment to Christ. Thirdly, while Christian stewardship is not based on reward, yet it is certainly recognized as a good investment in terms of investments.

In Mark 4 Jesus talked in terms of yield which were thirty, sixty, and one hundred fold; these returns were under the law. How much greater are your returns today under grace when you tithe out of love?
