I didn’t know it then.
But every Sunday, she was planting something in me.

My mawmaw knocked on my bedroom door as the sun woke up.
Already dressed.
Floral Sunday dress.
Purse tucked under her arm like it mattered.

I didn’t always want to go.
I was a little boy.
I wanted cartoons.
Pancakes.
To stay home.

She took me anyway.

We walked toward that little white church.
Slow.
Her hand steady.
Mine swinging.

She never rushed.
Never complained.
She just showed up.
Every single Sunday.

She didn’t preach at me much at home.
Instead, She lived it.
And that was preaching enough.

She saw something in me.
Something worth protecting.
Something worth shaping early.

Church wasn’t just a building to her.
It was a foundation.
A compass.
A reminder of who you are when life gets loud.

I didn’t always understand the sermons.
But I remember the hymns.
The wooden pews.
Her hand squeezing mine during prayer.

Looking back now, I see it.

She took me to church
long before I knew I’d need it.

Each year, our kids Sunday school class spends 6 weeks beginning at the first of the year studying scriptures that references love. They learn that to love is a core commandment, a description of God, and a quality that urges believers to love God and love others. They learn that they are to act in love reflecting God’s nature. They study scriptures that tell us God is love, love one another, love God and others, for God so loved, put on love, love covers a multitude of sin, etc., etc.
In the famous “love chapter” which is 1 Corinthians 13, we study love qualities (love is patient, love is kind, it does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud, it is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs (1 Corinthians 13:4-7). We also learn love in action - it always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always preservers, love never fails (1 Corinthians 13)
The importance of love tells us now these three remain: faith, hope and love but the greatest of these is love.
Their last lesson, we discuss the plan of salvation and how sin separates us from God.
During these weeks of study, the kids are given a box that they decorate that the adults can fill with love for each of them.
It is a great time of teaching them that God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten son that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16). Thank you parents for allowing us to share God’s Word with them.

Happy New Year! Each week we highlight one of our church families and ask you to pray for them. This first full week of 2026, join me as we pray for Brooks Baptist Church! Pray for their pastor, Bro. Dwayne Gomillion and this wonderful, sweet fellowship of our brothers and sisters in Christ! May this year be the best year yet in the life of Brooks Baptist!

Our church has had the best time “showering” the parents of the new soon to be members of our church! Starting now we are praying for these sweet babies that are coming very soon! 💓💙

STS 2025 was so much fun and even better we had souls saved and lives changed at the alter! Thank you Jesus!

Please have kids at church this Wednesday, December 10th, at 6:00 pm. We will have dress rehearsal for the Christmas play am will need extra time.

Our littles Sunday school class has talked this month about being Thankful for the blessings God has given us! Today we are drawing what we are thankful for. So much to Thank Him for!
