“O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth, who have displayed Your splendor above the heavens!”

Psalm 8 begins with this verse and then ends with it as well. But in the middle of this Psalm, he writes this, “When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars which You have ordained; what is man that You take thought of him.” We live our lives to ourselves giving little thought to the One who created us, who loves us, who gives us the breath in our lungs, the heartbeat in our chests, who has given us all things to enjoy, but mostly He has sacrificed His Son so that we might have eternal life and yet we live our lives for our own glory.

Jesus said, “Hallow be thy name”, yet we rob Him of glory when we neglect to recognize who He is and what He has done for us. His love for us compels Him to bless us, as Psalm 8 confirms, and yet we treat His name with contempt as we ignore His Word and fail to honor Him with our lives.

A true Christ follower recognizes the Father and nothing will keep them from striving to honor His name above all else. Romans 14:7, “For not one of us lives for himself, and not one dies for himself, for if we live, we live for the Lord, or if we die, we die for the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s. To this end, Christ died and lived again, that He might be Lord both of the dead and the living.”

Philippians 2:10 tells us that the day will come that at the name of Jesus, every knee will bow of those who are in heaven and on earth and under earth and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

Why wait? After all He has done to reveal His love for us, why wait until that day?

Why continue to show contempt for His name by failing to show him honor?

The life you live has been given to you by Him. Give it back to Him and watch what He does with it! Remember who you are and whose you are. Love you guys!

This week's message challenged us to move beyond treating faith as an add-on and embrace it as the very core of who we are. As Paul wrote in Ephesians 4:1, we are urged to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which we have been called.

This sermon raises a hard question that deserves serious reflection: Can others see the sin in their own lives by witnessing the holiness in yours? Holiness is not self-righteous religion. It is a call to purity and love that mirrors Jesus in every circumstance.

God's Word is the foundation that makes all of this possible. Without it, we cannot tell the difference between truth and lies. As Paul reminded Timothy in 2 Timothy 3:16-17, all Scripture equips us for every good work. You have a purpose. You carry influence. Do not waste it.

In this message, Pastor Ralph challenges believers to recognize the purpose and influence God has given every follower of Jesus. Using Ephesians 4 and other passages, he calls the church to move beyond passive consumption and embrace the call to grow in holiness, live as ambassadors for Christ, and....

“All who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.” Romans 8:14. God is a loving Father that often doesn’t make sense to us. He sometimes hides his face from us and makes us feel alone. He sometimes afflicts us and we don’t understand the unexpected pain we are forced to feel. He sometimes withholds comfort from us even though we cry out for understanding. We’re forced to question why would a loving Father do these things? The passage of scripture says, “All who are led by the Spirit of God”. Our lives are so entrenched in the ways of the world that in order for us to realize the hold that this world has on us, He acts or doesn’t act in ways that will eventually cause us to realize how desperate we need to draw close to Him. We often ask God to come rescue us, to come help us, or to come comfort us where we are. But our Father tells us that He doesn’t want to come to us but rather He wants us to come to Him, to draw near to Him. Jesus said follow Him. Not the other way around. Jesus said, “Come to me, and you will find rest.” But because of our sinful flesh, we want Him to come to us so we can remain where we are. The prodigal had to return to the father in order to enjoy the blessings he could offer. God, being a loving Father, will often hide from us, afflict us, withhold comfort from us because we want to remain where we are rather than come to where He is. He says draw near to me and we will find comfort. Breaking the hold that this world has on us can be difficult but we will never experience the fullness of our Father’s love until we are willing to break the hold this world has on us, abandon the sin that’s robbing us, and draw near to Him. Then He will open the treasures of heaven and freely give more than we can imagine. Remember who you are and whose you are. Love you guys!

At VCU Church, being sent is in our DNA. God has been raising people up and sending them out for decades, and that mission continues today. Your story is your message. Ask God for the wisdom and courage to share it this week.

Romans 10 reminds us that people cannot believe in someone they have never heard about, and they cannot hear without someone willing to speak.

Be sent. Be bold.

It’s not too late to invite someone to church tomorrow!

Sometimes a simple invitation is all it takes. Send the text. Make the call. Tag a friend. Invite someone to come sit with you.

You never know what God might do through one simple “Come to church with me."

What was your biggest takeaway from Sunday's message?

We encourage you to read Matthew 13:44 and ask yourself honestly: Have I recognized the treasure? Am I holding anything back? Do I truly understand the value of what has been offered to me? These are not comfortable questions, but they are the right ones.
