What happens when God’s mercy and our preferences don’t line up?

Jonah was thankful to receive God’s mercy for himself—but when God extended that same mercy to Nineveh, Jonah struggled.

And his story forces us to ask a difficult question:

What do we care more about—our preferences or people?

It’s easy to become so focused on what we want, what we like, and how we think things should be that we lose sight of the people God loves and desires to reach.

This week in Jonah: Running Ahead of God, we were reminded that receiving God’s mercy should encourage us show mercy to others.

There’s just something special about gathering together as a church family—worshiping Jesus, opening God’s Word, praying together, and encouraging one another.

Jonah had experienced God’s incredible mercy for himself—but struggled when God showed that same mercy to others. It’s a challenging reminder that receiving God’s mercy should change the way we respond to His mercy toward others.
