How serious is sin?

In Mark 9:42–50, Jesus gives one of the strongest warnings in all of Scripture. He reminds us that eternity is real, holiness matters, and following Christ is worth any sacrifice.

In this message, we look at Jesus' call to do "Whatever It Takes" to pursue holiness, fight sin, protect other believers, and faithfully follow Him.

Tomorrow at Cedar Baptist Church, we will look at one of the most sobering passages in all of Mark's Gospel.

📖 Mark 9:42–50
"Whatever It Takes"

Jesus calls us to take sin seriously, pursue holiness relentlessly, and follow Him no matter the cost.

In a world that treats sin casually, Jesus reminds us that eternity is real, holiness matters, and He is worth whatever it takes.

Join us tomorrow as we worship together, open God's Word, and fix our eyes on Christ.

Last night, Pastor Caleb walked us through the history of the English Bible.

Your Bible has blood stains on it. Men and women gave their lives so you could hold the Word of God in your own language.

From Wycliffe to Tyndale to faithful believers who suffered and died for the truth—God preserved His Word. And now we have the privilege of reading it freely.

Watch the lesson, follow along with the PowerPoint in the video, and thank God for your Bible!

A study of how we came to have the English Bible we have today.

Everybody wants to be great. Everybody wants to matter. Everybody wants to be noticed.

But in Mark 9, while Jesus is walking toward the cross, the disciples are arguing about who is the greatest.

And Jesus gives a shocking truth: The way up in God’s kingdom is down.

This Sunday’s sermon from Mark 9:30–41: “The Way Up Is Down”

Jesus reveals what it means to be great in the Kingdom of God.

This Memorial Day, we pause to remember and honor those who gave their lives for our country. We are grateful for their courage, sacrifice, and service. Freedom is never free.

But today also reminds us of a greater truth: the deepest freedom any person can know is found in the Lord Jesus Christ. Many have fought for earthly freedom, but only Christ can set a sinner free from the bo***ge of sin and reconcile us to God.

“So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.” — John 8:36

May we thank God today for those who served sacrificially, and may we use the freedoms we enjoy to worship Christ, proclaim His Word, and live faithfully for His glory.

Happy Memorial Day from Cedar Baptist Church!

New Pastor’s Pen is up!

Part 6 of our “One Another Christianity” series looks at Romans 15:7 — “Welcome one another, just as Christ also welcomed us to the glory of God.”

What a needed word for the church. Because Christ has welcomed us with grace, patience, and love, we are called to welcome one another the same way.

Read it here:

As we continue our One Another Christianity series, we now come to a command that reveals the heart of Christ toward His people: welcome one […]

Tonight we finished our Psalms of Ascents series with Psalm 134: “The Pilgrim’s Blessing.”

The Christian life is a pilgrimage leading us to this reality: a people captivated by the glory of God, blessing His name forever.

What a joy it was this past Sunday to witness two believers publicly declare their faith in Jesus Christ through baptism!

Baptism is a beautiful picture of the gospel — buried with Christ in His death and raised to walk in newness of life. We thank God for His saving grace and for what He is doing at Cedar Baptist Church.

Please continue praying that God would keep saving souls, changing lives, and building His church through the preaching of His Word.

Yesterday in Mark 9, we saw a desperate father cry out to Jesus:

“Lord, I believe; help my unbelief.”

What an honest prayer.

This passage reminds us that Jesus is merciful toward weak people whose faith struggles to hold on. The hope of the Christian life is not the strength of our faith—but the greatness of our Savior.

If your heart feels tired, fearful, burdened, or weak today, run to Christ.
