CATERWAULING CONFEDERATES
Might've kicked our butts at both "Bull Runs," in 1861, but we ran you Rebs clean out of Richmond, four years later .
Riding high in Shiloh you were in 1862, but besieged and broken were you, at Port Hudson and Vicksburg in 1863.
Sherman cut a pathway through you to the sea in 1864, burning Atlanta and Savannah, with thousands of "contraband" in tow.
At Appomattox in April 1865, you sued for peace, meanwhile REB assassins did not cease, your plot to kill the national Chief!
Rebel Andrew Johnson slid in as planned, intent on restoring his Native land, in peace if not war!
What to do now that the blacks were free, the usufruct of Union victory, both sides inquired!
Reconstruct the Rebels; "let'm up easy," Honest Abe had advised. No treason charges no more loss of lives!
As for the colored folks and their kin, give them 3 Amendments but no spoils of war, that'd be a sin!
Last hired. First fired . Official lies about equal remissions and officer commissions, USCT endured, yet their people 's freedom was procured!
As it was in war, so later it was in peace, as the white powers' paradigm reconciled and fleeced!
No money, no land, no tools, few 'rights,' just "separate but equal" laws, full of splinters and flaws.
But, by the grace of God, and by our genius innate, we managed to overcome evil spirits, obdurate
Still yet we rise, zigging and zagging, with wondrous eyes, infested, invested in every niche.
Slave to knave; denizen to citizen; now, governors, senators, judges, representatives and President!
From zeroes to CEO's; cast down but hanging around, we watch and pray, working toward that brighter day, when all of God's children can romp and play !
Lower that flag of infamy, that emblem of oppressive slavery; your cavaliers lost to sable arms they used to clamp chains upon.
Confederate friends! Accept defeat, pledge anew the only flag: red, white, and blue, embracing the black, brown, red, yellow too!
