Raymond Presbyterian Church - PCA Zachery Byrd, Pastor
Sunday Worship Service: 11:00 am We believe in the Holy Trinity. (http://www.pcanet.org/general/beliefs.htm)

A member of the Mississippi Valley Presbytery

We believe the Bible is the written word of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit and without error in the original manuscripts. The Bible is the revelation of God’s truth and is infallible and authoritative in all matters of faith and practice. There is one God, who exists eternally in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. We believe th

at all are sinners and totally unable to save themselves from God’s displeasure, except by His mercy. We believe that salvation is by God alone as He sovereignly chooses those He will save. We believe His choice is based on His grace, not on any human individual merit, or foreseen faith. We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, who through His perfect life and sacrificial death atoned for the sins of all who will trust in Him, alone, for salvation. We believe that God is gracious and faithful to His people not simply as individuals but as families in successive generations according to His Covenant promises. We believe that the Holy Spirit indwells God’s people and gives them the strength and wisdom to trust Christ and follow Him. We believe that Jesus will return, bodily and visibly, to judge all mankind and to receive His people to Himself. We believe that all aspects of our lives are to be lived to the glory of God under the Lordship of Jesus Christ.

Our friend and faithful deacon, Lee Thornton, is healed, and he has far more joy now in heaven than we currently have sorrow on earth.

Psalm 23

1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. 3 He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. 4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

The funeral for Lee Thornton will be held on Tuesday, August 24th at Raymond Presbyterian Church. There will be a visitation from 10:00-11:00a, with the services being held afterwards from 11:00-12:00p. Join us as we grieve together and thank the Lord together for his life.

“God be with you ‘til we meet again,
keep love’s banner floating over you,
smite death’s wave before you:
God be with you ‘til we meet again.”

The Raymond Presbyterian Church painfully announces that our dear friend, Lee Thornton, has gone to be with the Lord. Lee was a large presence in our church, and the greater his absence will be. He was a faithful deacon and a more faithful friend. As we all grieve his loss, we grieve in hope because we know that he is found in Christ. Our Savior who redeemed him by his grace has perfected him in glory, far beyond the reach of the pain and sorrows of this world.

Many of us will spend the next days and weeks grieving, yet as Samuel Rutherford once said, "The weightiest end of this cross of Christ that is laid upon you lays upon your strong Savior; for Isaiah says, 'In all your afflictions He is afflicted.'" In the overwhelming flood of grief, God leads us through the many waters, though His footprints are unseen (Ps. 77:19). Our cries are like the striking of a cord, ringing in heaven's ears. God Himself will carry us in his bosom, in his very arms.

Let us all pray for God's mercy and comfort for Jennifer, for Julia, and for our church family.

"Death cannot destroy forever;
from our fears, cares, and tears it will us deliver.
It will close life's mournful story;
make a way that we may enter heavenly glory."

Church - Please continue to pray for our deacon, Lee Thorton. Lee is in a medically induced coma. His oxygen dropped and it couldn’t get up to a safe level. He wasn’t letting the ventilator do its job, therefore, he was stiffening his lungs and over working them. He will be in this state for a few days.

The doctors will monitor his kidney function at this point.

Pray for his kidneys to remain healthy. Pray that the coma will allow his body to heal. Pray for his daughter, Jenny and his granddaughter, Julia.

URGENT PRAYER REQUEST 🙏

As many of you know, Lee Thornton was hospitalized with CoVid on Sunday, July 25th. Since that time, he has transitioned into a room in ICU with little recovery. News reached us today that Lee's oxygen level has dropped without significant recovery; therefore, the hospital has moved to intubate him and put him on a ventilator.

Retiring as a firefighter and serving now as a deacon, Lee Thornton is a man with a servant's heart. Right now, he needs us to serve him by praying for him. Let us pray for his recovery, for his lungs, for the doctors who will be treating him. Let us also pray for his soul, that God would keep him from fear and despair, that God would shower him with persevering grace.

As Henry Lyte once penned,

"Abide with me: fast falls the eventide;
the darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide:
When other helpers fail, and comforts flee,
help of the helpless, O abide with me."

Our God is a God at hand, never a far-away God. Let us pray that He would abide with Lee and sustain him through the coming days.

Praise the Lord we never lost power or water at Raymond Presbyterian Church!

If you can make it safely to church this morning, we can’t wait to worship with you today at 11:00am.

Please take the front steps up the church and avoid the side inclined walkway. There is a still ice on the walkway. Zach, an elder, or a deacon will walk you safely up the stairs and to your seat!
