A lot of people live under the false impression that they have to clean up their lives, fix their messes, and get everything perfectly in order before they can approach God and ask for help. We treat Him like a distant judge who only wants to see us when we have our act together. But that completely misses the reality of the Gospel.

Firefighters don't stand out on the curb waiting for the building to stop burning before they go inside. They kick in doors, push through the superheated smoke, and work their way to the fire because that is where the work needs to be done.

Jesus, our eternal Rescuer, did not stay distant from the work He needed to do on the cross of Calvary—He stepped up and paid the debt of our sins for us, in full! Jesus is just as alive today as the day He went to the cross. He didn’t ask anyone to clean up their act before He laid His life down for us that day. The same goes for today—He meets you right where you are. He sees all of you, even the stuff you don’t want Him to see.

Stop trying to out-work your struggles or rely on your own limited strength. Step into His presence and ask Him to help you—He will!

It’s an incredible honor to go to the throne of the Lord and talk to Him about a brother or sister in need. To ask for His mercies and receive the wisdom we need to walk alongside them through their struggles is a huge blessing and heavy responsibility. Prayer isn’t just a “please” and “amen”—it’s about deepening our connections on every level.
