AWKN Youth:
Inspired by Ephesians 5:14 which testifies of how we die to sin and this world, and come alive in Christ.

We "awaken" to a new life! The arrows show this illustration - The old has passed; The new has awoken.

Today we learned about the joy of the Lord. 🙌 This is not a temporary feeling of happiness the world experiences. This is eternal because Jesus lives in our heart! We have the promise of eternal life and our names are written in Heaven. 📖
It’s the Lord’s joy that we share for once we were lost, but now we’re found. Jesus saved us from an eternity in Hell and made the way of salvation for us. That’s why our joy is different and why it is everlasting! ✝️

“looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭12‬:‭2‬ ‭KJV‬‬

We finally finished our David series. David could’ve killed Saul if he wanted to, but he felt like it was not his place to harm God’s anointed. So the Lord fought for David and brought victory. ⚔️ Then David was crowned king over Israel. 👑
It doesn’t matter how bad the situation seems, God’s promises will certainly come to pass for your life. 🙌
They also got to replay a game they really enjoyed, “Box Goliath.”

“Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.”
‭‭1 John‬ ‭4‬:‭4‬ ‭KJV‬‬ ✝️

“The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.”
‭‭Exodus‬ ‭14‬:‭14‬ ‭KJV‬‬ 🙏

Today we learned about David hiding in the cave and in the wilderness. He had to hide from Saul but that didn’t keep God from using David and his little army. They rescued a Judean town from the invading Philistines and God did not let Saul find him.

You might find yourself, like David, in a place where everyone else around you is doing good but you’re “stuck in a cave.” We face things and even people who want to hurt us, but when you go to the house of the Lord you find the promise that the Lord is with you and you are blessed! 🙏🙌

🏃 They were running to the doors to demonstrate that they wanted to find the promise. We should be eager to come into the house of God because that’s where our reassurance comes.

Today we continued the David story: “David after Goliath.” Saul loved David and kept him in service. He played the harp to calm Saul when the evil spirit troubled him, and was even made a captain in the Israelite army. But Saul became jealous and began to hate David and plotted to kill him. The point of the lesson was jealousy. It can tear apart friendships, ruin unity, and cause arguing. Jesus wants us to love and uplift others. We stop jealousy by being encouraging and helpful- doing the opposite of what the devil wants. God has a purpose for all of us and we all have a part in God’s wonderful plan!

Unity is key 💟✝️

The activity was for them to play as David escaping Saul’s spear which they had fun with. They also wanted to make their own armor before class was over.

Today we learned about David being anointed as the next king of Israel. Even though he was still young, God still did great things for him! He gave David victory over the lion and the bear and in the same way defeated Goliath. All of this because David had a pure heart and he trusted the Lord. While the others were afraid, he was not afraid to face the giant because he knew the Lord was with him.
Never be afraid of the devil because

“Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.”
‭‭1 John‬ ‭4‬:‭4‬ ‭KJV‬‬

*They got to take down their own type of giant today. 😂 They enjoyed taking down Box Goliath with their rocks.

We learned about Faith In Action. Like the woman with the issue of blood, she didn’t only believe that if she touched the hem of Jesus’ garment she would be whole. She could’ve talked herself out of doing anything, but she put her faith into action and it came alive. When she reached out and touched the bottom of His robe, she was instantly healed. Faith without works is dead, so act upon what you believe and then you will receive. 🙌

When you put Jesus first, everything else falls into place. ✝️ Whether this is in prayer, praise, reading your Bible, or in your giving of tithes and offerings. When you choose to put Jesus first, He’ll take care of everything else and you’ll never have to worry or even be afraid. 🙏

***We put rice in the bottle first, then tried to put rocks in it, and the rocks didn’t fit. Then we put the rocks in first, and then put the rice in it and then everything fit. This shows that when you put Jesus the Solid Rock first everything else falls into place. (And yes, they did eat the uncooked rice. 🥲)

Today we learned about Abraham and Isaac. After the Lord gave Abraham the promise, He wanted to test Abraham faith to see if he trusted and feared Him. He took Isaac up a mountain in the land of Moriah and prepared to slay Isaac his only son in obedience to the Lord’s command. Just in time, God intervened and provided a ram instead! That’s what Jesus did for us. We were going to die in our sins but JESUS, The Lamb of God, stepped in and took our place so we can be born again!

They did a faith walk. One would close their eyes and the other (who would represent Jesus) would lead them through. This shows how we trust God and walk by faith, knowing that He’s in control.

Today we learned about Samson. 💪
A Nazarite who was dedicated to God from birth. When he told the enemy how to defeat him, his hair was cut and he was captured. But God remembered him and strengthened him one more time to defeat the Philistines.
JESUS is the source of our strength and our very present help in time of need. ✝️ He gives us power to overcome our enemy, satan, and power to stand strong for Him. When the Spirit of the Lord comes upon you, you can do a mighty work for God and NO ONE can stop you!

*I let them act out Samson breaking free from ropes, carrying the gates of the city (with chairs), and pretending the chairs are the pillars of the temple. When the pillars got knocked down, they all fell down too.

Today in class we learned about Elijah and the rain. Because of Israel’s idolatry and rebellion, the sky did not rain for 3 1/2 years. But when God brought down fire out of heaven, they knew He was the only one and then it was time for the rain to come. God gave Elijah strength not only to run to back to Jezreel (city in northern Israel), but also to outrun Ahab’s chariot into the city.

The point of the lesson:
You don’t have to learn the hard way. Listen to Jesus and follow Him. If He wants you to do something, do it. If He wants you to NOT do something, don’t do it! Blessings come with obedience. The Lord is looking out for us. He wants to keep us from sin so we can make it to Heaven our home.

The Game:
The ones on all fours are the horses. The Elijah’s had to outrun the horses to help visualize the story and what it was like for Elijah to outrun a chariot.

Today we learned about Zacchaeus. 🌳
He was determined to see Jesus, so he climbed a sycamore tree. Jesus spoke to him and went to be a guest in his house. From that day on Zacchaeus was never the same, and when we let Jesus into our hearts people know by our actions and the way we speak that something happened. We’re different and they know that there has been a change! A change of heart is all it takes to be a light for Christ.
“For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭19‬:‭10‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The game we played was review of his past and then his change of heart, and they got to either put Zacchaeus in the tree or bring him back down. 😂
