Sometimes you have to choose between a good thing and a God thing – and that’s exactly what happened in this passage. Despite the clear spiritual importance of their mission, Paul and his companions continually sought God’s direction.

“Now when they had gone through Phrygia and the region of Galatia, they were forbidden by the Holy Spirit to preach the word in Asia. After they had come to Mysia, they tried to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit did not permit them. So passing by Mysia, they came down to Troas. And a vision appeared to Paul in the night. A man of Macedonia stood and pleaded with him, saying, “Come over to Macedonia and help us.” Now after he had seen the vision, immediately we sought to go to Macedonia, concluding that the Lord had called us to preach the gospel to them.” Acts‬ ‭16‬:‭6‬-‭10‬ ‭

This world pursues knowledge because it breeds power. This is why data collection is so valuable – those who possess information gain control over situations. But there’s a wisdom far greater than human intelligence that no amount of knowledge can rival. This highest form of wisdom belongs to God alone, and yet, in His grace, He gives it freely. The more we grow in Christ, the more we grow in discernment.

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” James‬ ‭1‬:‭5‬ ‭

We live in a world where the line between right and wrong is becoming more blurred, and it can be challenging to distinguish which direction is the right one, especially when those decisions impact our lives and the lives of those around us. But one way we can be confident about what decisions we make is to allow God to lead, direct and influence our decisions.

Hebrews 4:12 tells us that God’s Word is living and active. This means that we can seek wisdom for any situation in God’s Word and be confident that we can find direction and leading.

Right/wrong, good/evil, hope/fear…as the world can be confusing and even cause some to feel fear…remember - hope is in the Lord!!

“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” Romans‬ ‭12‬:‭2‬ ‭

“For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭4‬:‭12‬ ‭

America’s Covenant with God in 1607; the expedition led by Reverend Robert Hunt in Virginia Beach. When they arrived in Virginia, the Reverend dedicated our country to the glory of God. They erected a rough-hewn wooden cross, brought from England, and prayed: “We do hereby dedicate this Land, and ourselves, to reach the people within these shores with the gospel of Jesus Christ, and to raise up godly generations after us, and with these generations take the Kingdom of God to all the earth. May this Covenant of Dedication remain to all generations, as long as this earth remains, and may this Land, along with England, be Evangelist to the World. May all who see this Cross, remember what we have done here, and may those who come here to inhabit join us in this Covenant and in this most noble work that the Holy Scriptures may be fulfilled.”
