Last night, Chapel visitors were treated to another great musical program from Bella Voce´, a local women's ensemble. As always, they were a treat. A Big THANK YOU to those of you who attended. The women also sand two songs during our nightly worship afterwards.

Pastor Grant Van Lishout, who was our visiting pastor this past week, had to leave for home in Wisconsin before our worship. However, we promised we would print the sermon he had prepared, as it fit so well with the theme of the evening. It is attached to this post. You may also wish to read the familiar Bible passage chosen for his sermon: Matthew 6: 25-34. He did a great job of weaving everything together.

Finally, we welcome this week's visiting pastor, Rev. Pat Dietrich, returning for her second time as our guest pastor. This is also the last week for evening worship this year. Plan to attend Wed., Sat., or Sun. evening, 7:30 PM each evening.

Pat Stillson Dietrich grew up in South Dakota, but has spent her career serving as a pastor in Texas for almost 40 years. She and her husband Larry are retired and live now in Brenham, TX. They have two grown children, and are enjoying traveling around the world. The Black Hills of South Dakota is always one of their favorite destinations!

It's that time of the year for Bella Voce´to perform at the Chapel! See attached poster! This Sunday, August. 23: Concert at 6:30 PM, then inside for evening worship at 7:30, where they will sing three songs as well. We hope you can come and support this talented group of women.

It's time to welcome another first-time guest pastor to the Chapel this week! Rev. Grant Van Lishout comes to us from Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Eagle River, WI.

Pastor Grant Van Lishout is nearing the end of his second year with Prince of Peace, bringing with him not just 18 years of ministry experience, but an infectious energy, a love for music, and a genuine joy in walking alongside people in faith. “I love journeying with our congregation through the seasons of the church year,” he says, “and some of my favorite moments happen in the conversations before and after worship.”

Pastor Grant’s path in ministry has been varied and rich. He began in rural Viroqua, Wisconsin, serving the North and South West Prairie Lutheran Churches, then spent nine years at St. Paul’s Lutheran in Atlantic, Iowa. A new calling brought him and his family north when he joined the staff at Marywood Franciscan Spirituality Center on Trout Lake as a spiritual director. From there, he became a familiar face in Vilas and Oneida County congregations, preaching and leading worship wherever he was needed.

Spiritual direction remains one of Pastor Grant’s passions. He serves on the planning team for the Spiritual Directors Preparation Program in La Crosse, WI, and has been recently appointed to the board of directors at the Franciscan Spirituality Center. He continues to chair the Affiliation Operating Board for the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration Affiliation—groups devoted to justice, equality, care for creation, and gospel-centered living.

At home in Minocqua, Grant shares life with his wife, Sherry—Prince of Peace’s Music Coordinator—and their two daughters. Lily (14) is going to be a freshman at Lakeland Union High School, competes on the swim team and plays flute. Hope (11) is entering 6th grade at MHLT, also swims, beginning to play trumpet, and lends a hand with altar guild duties. The family’s wooded hobby farm is bustling with life: a pig, two lambs, two dogs named Kaydee and Bentley, three bunnies, four turkeys and 30 chickens.

This week we welcome another first-time guest pastor to the Chapel, Rev. Julie Johnson. Stop in and say "Hello" and/or plan to attend one of our worship services on Wed., Sat., or Sun. 7:30 PM each evening.

Pastor Julie Johnson is a pastor in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America; she was ordained 33 years ago. She has served the Prairie Rose Parish (Ryder, Makoti, rural Makoti, rural Roseglen, & Emmet, ND) Milnor/Immanuel Parish (Milnor & rural Delamere, ND), Elm River/Norman/Stordahl Parish (Galesburg, Clifford, & rural Galesburg, ND), and Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Hillsboro and is now serving in the TNT Parish (Forman, Rutland, & Havana, ND).
Before serving as a pastor, Pastor Julie was employed as a legal secretary and worked in the banking industry in Fargo, ND. Also, she owned and operated Home Sweet Home Eldercare doing adult foster care in her home for five years while her children where pre-school.
She has three adult children Shelby, Chadrin, and Garrett and is expecting to be a first-time grandma in November. Parents of the grandbaby will be Garrett and his wife, Andrea.

WELCOME to our guest pastor for this week, Rev. DaMisha McFarland-Pollock! This is her second time serving the Chapel as a guest pastor. Pastor Misha will be leading evening services this week on Wed., Sat., and Sun., 7:30 PM. Be sure to make plans to attend. It is always a memorable experience.

Rev. DaMisha McFarland-Pollock pastors two churches in Burlington, IA - Bethany Lutheran and Messiah Lutheran. She is an eco-womanist theologian who seeks to name the voices in scripture that are often overlooked, misunderstood, or misrepresented so often in sermons and bible studies. She is an ELCA Coach with certifications in Creation Care and Discipleship. She believes that the youth in our churches are the church of today, not the church of the future. They should be included on councils, committees, serving teams, and the life of the church in general. DaMisha loves to read, take hikes, write poetry, and dance. A belief that we are all God’s children and should be treated accordingly guides her daily interactions with herself and those she encounters.

This week we welcome, from Great Falls, MT, Rev. Ryan Eikenbary. Evening worship continues Wed., Sat., and Sun., 7:30 PM through August.

Ryan Eikenbary currently serves as the rector at the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation in Great Falls. Prior to this he served as the Faith Life Pastor at First English Lutheran in Appleton, WI and at a dual call at Episcopal and Lutheran churches in Stockton, CA. He attended The Masters University in Southern California, earning a BA in Biblical Studies. His graduate studies include an MTS in Church History from the Church Divinity School of the Pacific and an MDiv from Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary. His master’s thesis is titled “And God Spoke in England: Puritan Iconoclasm and the Creation of the Verbal Icon”. In addition to parish work, he was an adjunct professor in ethics and religious history courses at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA. and taught Old and New Testament for the East Central Wisconsin Synod Lay School. When he is not working, he enjoys reading, cooking, gardening, swimming, hiking, and spending time with his family. He has been married since 2012 and has three adopted children.

Our big thanks to Pastor Kathleen Lotz for serving as our guest pastor during this past, very HOT week. And a special thank you to everyone who showed up for evening worship all three nights--despite the heat.

As we wish Pastor Kathleen Godspeed, we welcome Pastor Kyle Svennungsen as our new pastor this week. The weather promises to still be hot, but don't let that stop you from visiting the Chapel and attending one of our evening worship services. They are help each Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday through the end of August. Here is a bit more about Pastor Kyle:

Pastor Kyle Svennungsen currently serves at St. John American Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, SD. Prior to moving to South Dakota, Pr. Kyle and his family served as missionaries with the ELCA in Slovakia’s capitol Bratislava for 4 years. Pr. Kyle served an English-speaking international congregation, taught religion classes at a bilingual Lutheran high school, and shared responsibility for overseeing and supporting American teachers in the Central Europe Teachers program with the ELCA. Pr. Kyle and his wife of 17 years, Ånna, live just outside Sioux Falls in Tea, SD with their three boys and golden retriever.

As we enter another HOT July week, we welcome Pastor Kathleen Lotz as our newest guest pastor. Pastor Lotz is coming to us from Nevada, IA. Plan to attend one of her worship services, or simply stop in to say Hello!

Pastor Kathleen has been serving as the pastor at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada, Iowa for five years. While she is originally from the Phoenix area in Arizona and served her first call in Peoria, Arizona, she and her family truly enjoy living in the Midwest and are grateful to be able to live somewhere that experiences distinct seasons! She and her spouse, Josh, have three kids – Oliver (9), Theo (7), and Ewan (3) (along with a goofy dog named Alvin). Before discerning a call to rostered ministry, she worked as a music therapist in pediatric and adult settings. She is looking forward to getting to serve as a guest pastor and explore the Black Hills while visiting.
