The sociologist Hartmut Rosa describes "oases of resonance" as places and moments where we feel truly alive and connected, set against the "deserts of alienation" spreading through a fast, consumption-driven world. Industrial eating, Rev. Channin suggests, has become one of those deserts: food that reaches us mute, cut off from the animals, land, and people it came from, and often from our own values. She has spent the last decade working to reshape the places we eat, so that connection rather than alienation becomes the easier path and the shared table becomes a place where we're moved, changed, and reconnected to one another and to the living world.

Since time immemorial taxliswetem, the Cahuilla people, have lived in a life sustaining relationship with Temal (Earth). Cahuilla origin stories provide foundational narratives establishing our place in this world, situating people in interconnective relations with all aspects of the universe. Indigenous intellectual systems, including traditional ecological practices have developed over millennia. These traditional practices are now playing a critical role in efforts to alleviate impacts of rising global ecological challenges facing all of us.

To tune into the meaningful even if it doesn’t mean anything to anybody else. Kind of telling my story to myself. Because if we are born out of love and die into love, what direction do we choose as we live the gift of life still ahead.
