What if the strongest thing you can do in a relationship isn’t to win, lead, or get your way?

In this message, Mike Collins looks at the kind of humility Jesus forms in us — not weakness, not passivity, not pretending nothing happened, but the strength to make room for someone else’s good.

“That’s not in my hula hoop.”

It sounds a little strange at first. But it may be one of the most freeing things you can learn to say when someone else’s choices, attitude, or behavior starts taking over your attention. Mike Collins explains why in this short from “Their Problem. Your Move.”

Feeling out of control is frustrating--especially when you realize that you can’t make the other person do what you think they should do.

But what if some of the control we’re fighting to keep was never ours in the first place?

Mike Collins uses a surprisingly familiar driving experience to make the point.

Sometimes the answer to a difficult relationship sounds obvious: Just be more patient. But what if trying harder is exactly where we get stuck?

In this short, Mike Collins points toward a different way to respond when the people around us are difficult and our own patience starts running thin.

You’ve probably been there. You know the right thing to do. You want to respond with patience. You want to show grace. You want to be the kind of person who reflects Jesus. But then that person says that thing… and somehow the same reaction comes out again.

What if trying harder isn’t the solution?

In this week's message, "You Can’t Force the Fruit," Mike Collins explores why lasting change in our relationships can’t simply be manufactured—and what it looks like to grow something deeper.

Feeling stuck with someone you care about?

When a relationship gets tense or distant, it’s natural to look for the right words, the right technique, or the right way to fix the other person. But reconnecting usually requires something deeper than a relationship hack.

NEW GROUNDWORK EPISODE

Sometimes the most dangerous moment in a relationship is when you’re absolutely certain you’re right. You know what happened. You remember what was said. The facts are on your side.

So what could possibly be wrong? Maybe more than you think.

JOIN US THIS SUNDAY! 🙌 Solid Ground is grateful to partner with Alta Loma Christian School as a community that shows up for our campus every week in prayer and stays actively involved in the learning journey of our students and the parenting journey of our families.

This Sunday is a special Back-to-School celebration and fall kickoff, and we’re inviting all school families — AND ALL SCHOOL FAMILIES IN GENERAL — to join us as we celebrate our graduates and pray over every teacher and student represented.

Regardless of where you attend church or school, you are invited.

WE WANT TO PRAY OVER YOU — whether you’re an educator or you have one in your life, whether you have kids in public or private school, and whether you just graduated from middle school or graduate school, we believe in the power of prayer and community. It’s our calling and privilege to love and support every teacher and every student, everywhere.

Some sentences become so familiar that we stop hearing exactly what they say. “You are the light of the world” may be one of them.

Mike Collins pauses over the words Jesus chose—and the words he didn’t. The difference may change the way you llive out this verse.
