“So, putting away lying, speak the truth, each one to his neighbor, because we are members of one another. Be angry and do not sin. Don’t let the sun go down on your anger, and don’t give the devil an opportunity.”
Ephesians 4:25–27

Whew… this one hits a little close to home.

“Be angry and do not sin.” Because let’s be honest, we’re going to get angry. People are going to hurt our feelings. Somebody is going to say something that makes us think, “Oh, I know you didn’t just say that.” 😬

What we do with that anger matters.

I really love the part that says, “Don’t give the devil an opportunity.”

Sometimes it starts with one little thing, and then we replay it, get more irritated, talk about it, and hold onto it until it becomes something way bigger than it ever needed to be.

I’ve definitely been guilty of that…

Sometimes we need to speak up. Sometimes we need to forgive. Sometimes we just need to take a breath, pray about it, and let it go.

I don’t want to give the enemy room in my heart because I’m holding onto something that God is asking me to release.

So today, I’m reminding myself: feel the anger, but don’t let the anger control you.

Psalm 90:12

I’ve heard this verse before, but the older I get, the more it means to me.

Life goes by FAST. One minute I’m holding a baby, and the next I’m packing lunches, signing school papers, and wondering how my babies got so big. 🥹

It’s easy to always be thinking about what’s next and forget that THIS is my life right now.

This verse is a reminder to me to pay attention. To be present. To appreciate the ordinary days because one day, I’m going to look back and realize those ordinary days were actually some of the best ones.

So today, I want to slow down enough to notice the little things. The conversations. The hugs. The laughter. The messy house. The people I love sitting right in front of me.

These days are a gift from God, and I don’t want to rush through them.

I’m studying Romans chapter 8 for my Sunday School lesson today, and I’ve heard these verses so many times before. But this time, one part really stopped me:

“He did not even spare his own Son but gave him up for us all.” Romans 8:32

Whew.

I look over at my children and think, there is NO way I could sacrifice them for this world. I can’t even imagine it.

And yet, that’s exactly what God did for us.

He didn’t just say He loved us. He gave His Son for us.

Then Paul says, “If God is for us, who is against us?”

Sometimes we let people, our mistakes, our past, or even our own thoughts make us question whether God really loves us. Romans 8 reminds us that Jesus already paid the price.

We don’t have to earn His love. We don’t have to prove ourselves (thank goodness, right?).

God gave His Son for us. Christ is still interceding for us. Let’s praise and worship Him!

“Keep your life free of the love of money. Be satisfied with what you have, for He Himself has said, I will never leave you or abandon you.” Hebrews 13:5

Life Application:

I think we live in a world that is constantly telling us we need something else.

A bigger house. A newer car. More money. New clothes. The next vacation. The next thing for the kids. Social media definitely doesn’t help with that.

It’s so easy to look at what somebody else has and start thinking, “I need that, too.”

This verse reminds me that contentment isn’t about having everything we want. It’s about realizing we already have something better…God’s presence.

That doesn’t mean we can’t have goals or want nice things. It just means those things don’t get to determine whether we’re thankful or happy.

If we’re always waiting for the next thing to make us satisfied, there will always have to be a next thing.

I don’t want to spend my life constantly chasing what I don’t have and miss all the good things God has already placed right in front of me.
