“Imagine a circle of compassion, and then double its size.”

This week, Rev. Tuck Taylor reminds us that following Jesus means expanding the fences until no one is left standing outside.

The closing reflection on expanding the circle of compassion draws from Father Greg Boyle's Tattoos on the Heart: The Power of Boundless Compassion.

At our College Send-Off Dinner, Peter Baucom said it best: “I found my people here. I’m going to go off and find my people there.” 💙

As students begin or return to college this week, we’re giving thanks for the community they’ve found at Highland 🙌 and praying for the friendships, growth, and sense of belonging they’ll discover in this new season. 🌱

College students, we’re cheering you on! 🎉 You will always have a place here. 💙

Earlier this week, we shared a glimpse of our middle schoolers serving with BELONG NC. Now, take a look at the rest of their City Servants week! 💙

Along with their time at BELONG NC, they packed meals with Rise Against Hunger, strengthened friendships, had plenty of fun, and explored what it means to share the light of Christ through service.

We’re grateful for these young people, the adults who served alongside them, and a meaningful week spent outside our walls. ✨

“Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.”
—Matthew 5:16, NRSVUE

Do you know a young person looking for a place to make friends and make a difference in the world? They are welcome at Highland! Send us a message or visit highlandumc.org/youth to learn more.

A little moment of connection. 💙

As Pastor Tuck continues getting to know the Highland community, we’ve loved seeing the conversations, introductions, and everyday moments that are helping relationships grow—like this sweet moment we caught after worship recently.

This Sunday, we’re putting our faith into words. 📝💙

Over the past two weeks, Highland has been participating in an Offering of Letters with Bread for the World, advocating for policies that help address hunger in our communities and around the world.

This Sunday, August 16, we’ll bring our letters forward together during worship.

Haven’t written yours yet? There’s still time. You’ll find a sample letter, instructions, and more information at highlandumc.org/breadfortheworld.

Children and youth are welcome to participate, too.

Write a letter. Add your voice. Bring it with you Sunday.

🩲 ✏️📕Current greatest needs include underwear in a variety of children’s and adult sizes, pajamas, socks, diapers and wipes, toiletries, school supplies, children’s books, and more.

💛 Monetary donations are also welcome, and Highland’s Missions Committee will match donations up to $1,000 through August 23.
