First Presbyterian Church of Raleigh

First Presbyterian Church of Raleigh "Serving Christ from the Heart of the City to the Ends of the Earth with Love, Faith and Action" - Since 1816, we have served God from the center of Raleigh

We are a congregation of the Presbyterian Church (USA), a church with roots in the Protestant Reformation. We affirm the sovereignty of God, the Lordship of Jesus Christ and central importance of the Scriptures in shaping our lives and our life together. In our governance and in our theology, we are guided by a two-part constitution: the Book of Confessions and the Book of Order. The Book of Confe

ssions is a collection of creeds, catechisms and theological statements, rooted in Scripture, which help us understand who God is, and how we are to live as God's people.

FPC Shares for June: Our faith calls us beyond our walls and into the lives of our neighbors. This month, we’re focusing on collecting rice, gravy, pasta, and pasta sauce – a simple item that can make a meaningful difference for families facing food insecurity. We invite you to bring this and any other non-perishable food donations to the church as an expression of God’s love in action. Together, we are partnering with local food pantries to help nourish our community and bear witness to a faith that feeds, serves, and cares. Thank you for living out this shared commitment to ending hunger.

Staff Spotlight!!!

Get to know Director of Family Ministries & Christian Education, Beth Thaxton

How long have you been in full-time ministry?
After studying Religion & Christian Education at Presbyterian College, I started serving at my first church in 2005 and have been at FPC Raleigh since 2009 - so for over 20 years! What a gift this calling is!

What is your favorite part of ministry?
The gift of ministry is seeing the gifts of God at work in the people of FPC -- when we see children of the church grow up to share their gifts in ways that ease poverty and pain in the world, when we see young people build community together just as God invites us to, and when we see adults respond to the baptismal vows made for the children of the church -- all of these are my favorite parts of ministry. I truly believe that we make God's authentic love known when we share the gifts we've been given.

Which do you like better-mountains or beach?
I LOVE the mountains! Nothing is better to me than crisp, mountain air and a beautiful view!

What was your first concert?
The Beach Boys! I think I was in elementary school! My favorite group to see in concert, though, is the Wailin' Jennys!

What is something new that you would like to try?
I love to travel, so I think I'd like to go to a country I've never been to, like Portugal or Australia!

Who inspires you and why?
I'm so inspired by my mother, Jane. Her compassion, dedication to justice, and patience inspire me daily.

Who is your favorite sports team?
While I went to Presbyterian College, I'm a Tar Heel through and through!

Thanks for all that you do for First Presbyterian Church, Beth!

Last night, our Deacons gathered in fellowship and service to pack 100 medicine bags for Filling in the Gaps (FIGS). These care bags will be shared with our unhoused neighbors visiting Oak City Cares this weekend.

Each bag is a small reminder that compassion matters — and that every person deserves dignity, care, and hope. We are grateful for the hands that packed and prepared these gifts of love.

As a church serving from the heart of the city, we believe Christ calls us to meet our neighbors where they are and to share God’s love in tangible ways. Thank you to our Deacons for living out that calling so faithfully.

Last week, our staff had the privilege of serving alongside Habitat for Humanity Greater Raleigh during a local home build workday.

As one of our mission partners, Habitat’s work reflects a vision we deeply believe in: walking alongside future homeowners, building not only houses, but hope, stability, and stronger communities. We are grateful for the opportunity to put our faith into action and support the hard work of families pursuing safe and affordable housing.
