Disaster preparedness takes practice. This week, our staff showed up ready to learn, collaborate, and train the skills to respond to the next disaster.

Catholic Charities staff from across central and eastern North Carolina came together at the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) for a full-day disaster training exercise designed to test decision-making, communication, resource coordination, and survivor-centered response in a realistic emergency management environment.

The day was serious in purpose, but intentionally fun in format. By turning complex response scenarios into an interactive game, staff were able to practice real disaster response skills, think through tough tradeoffs, and build confidence together.

A special thank you to NC Emergency Management hosting us at the SEOC and collaborating with us in this important preparedness effort. We are also grateful to Phil Triplett, NC State VAL, for helping coordinate logistics and providing a tour of the facility.

Events like this are critical because preparedness helps us provide help, create hope, and serve all when our communities need it most. 💜

Last week was United Way’s 2026 Days of Caring, a day where volunteers get matched with a local nonprofit, roll up their sleeves, and make a real difference through meaningful hands-on projects.

During this special day, our Fayetteville office got volunteers to assist with assembling TEFAP and hygiene kits. Thank you to the volunteers from Good Year and the Public Works Commission (PWC), and especially Mrs. Nancy and Mr. Dennis for a day filled with hard work, laughter, and the shared satisfaction of creating positive change.

With the bilingual staff of the new UNC Health Rex Mobile Unit, CpFH has a new partner in helping our Hispanic community to access life-saving health screenings like mammograms.
