Rich Logis, founder of Leaving MAGA.org and author of One Betrayal Too Many: Why I Left MAGA, will speak at the Unitarian Universalist PEACE Fellowship on Wednesday, September 16 at 2pm.
Mr. Logis will share his seven-year journey deep into the MAGA movement and what it took for him to walk away. He has been featured on CNN, MSNBC, CSPAN, and major international outlets speaking about political polarization and disinformation.
Leaving MAGA, a non-profit, non-partisan organization, offers guidance for those who are questioning or considering leaving MAGA as well as providing helpful information for friends and relatives who have loved ones in MAGA. Mr. Logis believes that empathy and understanding, not personal attacks, are the keys to reducing political polarization. Leaving MAGA focuses on political deradicalization, accountability, and rebuilding democratic norms.
In addition to speaking engagements, Leaving MAGA offers a friends and family zoom support group for those affected by a loved one’s MAGA affiliation. This group is not about debating politics, venting outrage or trying to force anyone to change. It is about restoring clarity and self-possession and learning how to respond to MAGA-affected loved ones in a practical, disciplined and transformational way.

There’s no denying ours is a nation of immigrants. Welcoming the stranger is a religious imperative. Our Unitarian Universalist faith is not focused on dogma, creeds, scripture or any deity, we leave all that up to each of us individually. We UUs are instead focused on our actions: “Deeds, not creeds.” The religious imperative to love the stranger translates to action to us UUs. To us, love is a verb. Treating others well, taking care of them.

John Pavlovitz For Good

When we think about the difficult days we have been walking through, it's natural for us to lament the ways that we have been negatively altered: the irritability that seems constant, the loss of optimism about the future, the sense of dread always hovering in the periphery. We can easily inventory the changes within us that we are unhappy about.

Yet, it's important to realize that there is more going on here. We can, and we should, consider the ways we have been renovated that we are grateful for; for clarity that has come, for relationships we've built, for voices we've found.
With all there is to grieve over and all we've lost, we have also been changed for good.

📌 Deepest Condolences — Tragic Accident of Thai Monks, July 2, 2026

Our hearts are heavy today as we receive deeply saddening news from northeastern Thailand. A heartbreaking accident occurred when a vehicle struck a group of 30 monks during their sacred walking practice through Mukdahan province, claiming the lives of 9 venerable monks and leaving many others injured.

We want to gently reassure our community that the venerable monks of the Walk for Peace are not involved in this accident and are entirely safe. Yet as brothers in the Dhamma, we feel this profound loss deeply in our hearts. We extend our most heartfelt condolences to the Sangha of Thailand, the families of the departed, and all those affected. We pray for the departed venerable monks and dedicate all our merits to them—may they rest in serene and ultimate peace, and may those still hospitalized recover swiftly and completely.

This news echoes within us in a deeply personal way — bringing back the memory of our own frightening moment on Day 25 of the Walk for Peace, November 19, 2025, near Dayton, Texas, when a vehicle lost control and veered directly toward our walking group. In that breathless moment, the line between life and death felt heartbreakingly thin. We understand, in a very real way, the vulnerability that comes with walking on the road in service of peace.

A long journey for peace is never without hardship. It carries severe weather, physical exhaustion, and unpredictable dangers on the open road. Yet it is precisely within these challenges that the true and beautiful vow of the venerable monks shines most brightly.

Their footsteps do not stop out of fear. The dedication to carry the message of peace, mindfulness, and loving-kindness to all beings is greater than any obstacle. Every step is an offering — a quiet and steadfast promise to endure adversity so that seeds of peace may be planted across the world.

This moment also reminds us gently of how precious and fragile life truly is — and how deeply we are called to treasure each breath, each moment, living fully in the present with mindfulness and love.

May all beings everywhere be free from suffering, be healthy, be safe, be peaceful and at ease in body and in mind. 🙏✨
