Begin your Sunday worship now…

“1Peter: 3:13 - “And who is he who will harm you if you become followers of what is good?”

“The path that we walk to our goal is not easy, and our Heavenly Father never promised it would be easy. It was not even easy for the Lord Jesus.

He had to endure more than His share of suffering, injustice, and persecution, but despite that, He accepted His Father’s will.

We too endure much in our day-to-day life, but must have faith in our Heavenly Father and trust that He will always give us strength and whatever we need to endure our trials and tribulations.

Every Divine Service is an opportunity for us to receive the things that can help us strengthen our faith. We can also participate in Holy Communion, fellowship with Christ.

In Hymn #255 of the Choir Binder (“The overcomer”), our choir sings of our reward when we both become followers of good, and faithfully follow our Savior:

“His name shall
in the Book of Life be written,
and he shall be arrayed in purest white.
His name shall never
from the Book be stricken,
which Jesus Christ
with his own blood did write.
And whosoever follows the Savior
shall truly never be led astray,
shall truly never be led astray.”

Additional Bible Readings:
Romans 8: 31-32, 38-39
John 16: 33, 17: 20-23
1 Corinthians 15: 57
1 Peter 3: 8
Philippians 1:6

🤔Personal Reflection:

Even when we are confronted with evil, we continue to trust the Lord and remain confident that He will finish the good work He has begun in us (Philippians 1: 6). Nothing will separate us from the love of God (Romans 8: 38–39), and we will continue to follow the path of goodness by doing good. “

Our bible verse prompts two questions we can ask ourselves from both a natural and spiritual perspective:

How do you feel when you are suffering?
How do you feel when you experience relief and consolation?

The suffering of which Paul speaks of is not a natural one, but more of a spiritual one. Paul suffered from the many pressures and forces he encountered while spreading the gospel. Those who believed also experienced suffering as they were persecuted for their faith and for following what they were taught. In our day, we can suffer when we see that some don’t see the value of remaining faithful, or when some in other places, like in Paul’s time, are persecuted for their faith.

But those who believed in the gospel that Paul brought also knew that God granted a wonderful consolation. This is something we know as well, while we may experience suffering often, there is great comfort and consolation that comes from our Heavenly Father. He watches over us and grants us comfort, relief and consolation when the time is right. He never disappoints.

The fourth verse of #390 (“Our God is loving”) in our Hymnal shows what our Heavenly Father does to ease our suffering:

With joy He fills ev’ry soul grown weary;
with joy He fills ev’ry aching heart.

We praise him evermore; Our God is loving,
our God is loving, He loves us all.

Additional Bible Readings:
2 Corinthians 1: 3-7;
2 Corinthians 1: 8-10

Personal Reflection: Think of a time when your heart was burdened with suffering. How did you feel? And then think of a time when you experienced comfort and consolation after a time of suffering. How did you feel? Paul never forgot that his God was there for him. Think of something you can do this week to keep your faith as we sing in one of our songs, and know that our Heavenly Father is always there for you.

Today we focus on those in the realms of the departed. While we certainly want to be a vessel for those of our family and friends who we’ve known in life, we also want to be a vessel for those who may have entered eternity suddenly or in difficult circumstances and have become lost and are looking for the way to God’s altar.

However, to be truly saved, these souls who are in the beyond must have the same desire to come to the altar, call on our Heavenly Father, and receive that which is timely and necessary for their soul salvation.

When you call on our Heavenly Father, what are your expectations? Do you require an immediate answer to your prayer, or do you have faith that while He may not grant a resolution to your prayer right away, he will answer when the time is right?

While the last part of the first commandment reads: “You shall have no other gods before Me.”, the words of the second verse of Hymnal #189 (“I’m the child of a King”) show the reward for staying faithful to God and making Him our only one:

I once was an outcast stranger on earth,
a sinner by choice and an alien by birth;
but I’ve been adopted, my name’s written down
an heir to the mansion, a robe and a crown!

I’m the child of a King! The child of a King!
With Jesus, my Saviour, I’m the child of King!

Personal Reflection
As we come to another Service for the Departed, let us meditate on God's incredible plan of salvation which includes all souls both here and in the beyond, and what it means for all of us as we continue on our walk of faith to the goal.

The theme of our word is “We believe and pray.” This raises two questions we could ask ourselves: “Do I believe?” and “Do I pray?” Fostering both a strong prayer life and a strong belief in our Heavenly Father and His word is what keeps us moving forward to the goal.

When Jesus gave His life on the cross, it was not just for the living, it was also for those who had died before Him. He was the first to experience the resurrection, and this is something that we have the opportunity to experience as well when Jesus returns to take his bride!

Some on earth strive after the perfect body from a physical perspective, as God’s children, on the day when Jesus returns, we will take on the perfect resurrection body and garment that Jesus has worn since His resurrection.

We can see the benefit of striving and staying strong on our path of faith with those on earth, and those in the departed to the goal in the words of verse three of Hymnal #152 (“Stand up for Jesus”)

Stand up, stand up for Jesus! The strife will not be long,
This day the noise of battle, the next the victor’s song.
For then the overcomer, the crown of life shall see,
And with the King of glory, shall reign eternally.

Additional Bible Readings
1 Corinthians 15:20
Philippians 3:21

Personal Reflection: Next Sunday we will celebrate Service for the Departed. Take some time and think of how we can be a tool and vessel of blessing for those in the realms of the departed so that they can also come and receive the blessings that we come for at the altar of our Heavenly Father.
